When you all are not using your DSLR, do you store it in the bag with the lense on, or off?

Yes, I don't want to open up the camera body and expose the inside to dust if I don't have to.

If my 70-200VR is on the camera then it has to come off because it won't fit in my bag. In that case I'll go ahead and switch lenses because I don't carry a body cap or enough rear lens caps for every lens.

I always keep a lens on my camera body. If I think I wont be using the camera for a while, then I'll take the battery out, but thats it. Lens is always on.

me too, i usually just leave the last one i used on the body...my problem lately has been forgetting to put the lens cap on when i put it away:eek: but so far it has been ok,no scratches but i figure it's only a matter of time so i need to get a better system for that( or a new brain)

It depends. If the last lens used was the 70-300mm then I remove the lens and place the caps on. The body wont fit properly in my bag with this lens on without some major reorganization of the bag. If the last lens on was the 50mm or 17-55mm, then the lens stays on.

I always put mine away with my 28-75 2.8 on it, that way I can grab and shoot at a moments notice :thumbsup2

It doesn't really matter how you store it, with a lens or body cap.
One trick I read about is to put strips of double-stick tape inside the body cap so it will capture any dust floating around inside the camera.

That will only catch dust just floating about. The protect the sensor, get clear double sided tape and put it right over the sensor itself. Now your sensor is completely protected from dust. And since the tape is clear, you can leave it on while you shoot. Just be careful not to farkle the shutter.

Whoa...I didn't mean to revive an ancient thread. I somehow found myself on page 13. Well, at least it gave me a good chance to give that incredibly useful tip on double-sided clear tape on the sensor.

well i'm so glad i looked at this old thread.......i'm going to put tape both places just to be safe... and i if i use hubs less tacky blue painter's tape i won't have to worry about blowing out the sky anymore, even ne ohio gray skys will look bright blue;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

sadly someone will possibly try that and ruin their camera..:scared1:

Perhaps I need a special smilies for when I say crazy things like putting tape on your sensor, worrying about color casts from the red ring on L lenses, or considering Zenfolio as an alternative to Smugmug. I guess I just see it as a Darwinistic thing. We'll slowly evolve into people that are suspicious about what they read on the Internet.
