Lens recommendation??

I have a Nikon D50 and would like to purchase an 18-200 lens with digital image stabilization before we leave for WDW in 2 weeks. I don't want to spend the money on a Nikon lens, so I'm looking at Quantaray, Tamron, or Sigma. Can anyone make a recommendation??

quantaray doesn't have the best reputation, so I personally would stick with tamron,tokina, or sigma for 3rd party lenses..

that is what I was told years ago when I worked for Ritz camera, however I've heard more complaints about lens quality for quantaray, and sigma seems to have a much better resale value than quantaray..

If you have a Ritz Camera around you they are closing half of thier stores nationwide. I stopped in Saturday and they had glass discounted up to 30%. That might put the Nikon glass in your price range if they still have any in stock.

If you can get a deal on the Nikon version or find a used one, I'd go that route. The Nikon version is very good. I always find that when I try to go the cheap alternative route, I always end up with the Nikon version in the end and have spent more in the process.

Looks like the Quantaray is made by Sigma...

Quantaray is rebadged Sigma, but Sigma already has QC issues, so I'd shy away from that option. Honestly, this one lens I would really recommend going the Nikon route if you really want this range. Even the Nikon 18-200 VR has some IQ/etc issues, but the third party lenses are plagued with issues.
