HI,
recently acquired canon powershot g7 at great price. I was looking at lens , and really don't know what I should maybe at some point consider?
What does the fish eye do? How much would a telephoto add?
Was thinking of getting a gorilla pod for disney trip, but not sure if I will really use it that much. Anyone using a G7 or 9 or similar out there?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi!

A starting point would be the Lensmate site. Some of your questions are answered there. I would definitely read some and look at a few of the G7 online galleries like those on the Canon Talk Forum.

I used some lenses given to me with my G5 but I'm waiting to become more proficient with my G9 before investing in adapters etc. I think alot would depend on your comfort level with the G7's basic capabilities.

As to the Gorillapod - I love mine! While I used it as a tripod for some night photos at Disney in December, shaky me found it absolutely wonderful for holding right in my hand to get better shots. It was almost like having a handle to steady my camera.

Enjoy your G7 and if it's your first in the "G" series I know you will enjoy it!

I have the G9 and used Lensmate to purchase their recommended wide angle (not fisheye) lens and got the telephoto lens off Amazon. I bought the mini tripod Lensmate sells and a gorillapod (make sure you get a large enough one for the add-on lenses) and think they will both have their uses. Oh, I also got the shutter release adapter because with the gorillapod, even pressing the shutter release makes it move a bit.

This mini-kit is for those times I don't want to take my 1DsMkII and all lenses around. I'll be making my first big trip with it in a couple of weeks when we head to Virginia. I'll report back on my success or lack thereof.

Thanks to all. I was looking at lensmate , never understood when you'd use a fisheye ! Duh!
I was thinking of a gorillapod, then said, well, maybe I should just hold for a better tripod, then again, how often do I do disney and have time to take photos and not have someone haggling me to rush to get tossed off a mountain? <G>
I was reading the Scott Kelby digital camera book. Good tip I read was to set the timer for 5 sec . if you don't have shutter release adapter.
Will the G7 use the wireless one?
I've been so wrapped up in getting the menu down and testing different lights , I haven't had time to look at extras yet.<G>
I wonder if my okepta (?spelling) lens for my minolta z6 would fit. It is a combo macro , telephoto ... that would be way to lucky huh?
Thanks, can't wait to see the photos!
