They have indeed dropped the stroller rental.
As to why some people don't use ABBF, some of us prefer the Disney rentals to traditional strollers. They are very easy to push (easier than a traditional stroller), they have a slightly higher weight limit. They fit children with longer legs. They are easily replaced if "lost" and can be left behind or not rented at all if your five year old wants to walk half the day. You don't need to fold them to get on and off the buses - because you don't bring them to the bus stop. The kids can get in and out of them by themselves, which reduces lifting. Few strollers except the Disney rentals will fit a six year old. (ABBF web site lists their strollers as for ages 0-4. A Disney double has a 100 lb weight limit, you can do one 90 lb child in their stroller if you need to.)
The Disney strollers aren't for everyone - they don't have much cargo space. They don't recline. The rental fees are pricey. And they are only available at the parks - which if your kids aren't good walkers can make for a very long trip as you carry kids back to the hotel room every night. But we love them.
