Legos? Black Friday?

Practically all my son wants for Christmas are lego sets. I'm desperate to know if I should wait for Black Friday or go ahead and get them sooner.
Does anyone know if there are normally sales on Legos or not?

In the past they have had BRICK FRIDAY where you save a certain percentage based on amount you spent. My DD15 wants the holiday lego set which is already on a month back order so I didn't take a chance of waiting for that, I ordered it now. Amazon sells a lot of their sets that are not exclusive and so does target with the 5% red card bonus. So it depends on WHAT the set is if I would wait or not. If it is NEW I probably would get it now...

I seem to remember TRU selling them buy one get one 1/2 off around Black Friday.

Do you have a Citi credit card?

Buy them now; register your purchases with Citi Price Rewind (online is tracked automatically; store advertisements you have to submit copies of) and get the difference back after 60 days (below $25 you get a statement credit; over $25 you can select a check or statement credit).

I tend to buy on the lego website all year long, and save VIP points for Xmas (I take advantage of when they have double points, too). Obviously this doesn't help you now.

In my experience, they are very rarely HUGELY discounted (not enough that I'd be super disappointed to have to pay full price).

I remember checking TRU last year when they did buy one/get 1 half off and since their prices are generally higher, it's not as great as a discount as one might think.

All my son wants is Lego too but I finally convinced them that he could only ask for one lego set per person (one from Santa, one from me, one from dad, one from each grandparent, etc).

I've said this many times but legos are INVESTMENTS. Keep the boxes and instructions. My DD has doubled and tripled her money on them just building, enjoying, reselling after a few years...I never mind a lego purchase!

Keep an eye out for Barnes and Noble's Black Friday coupon. I got 30% off in addition to the B&N Club Discount on one of the larger sets last year. They also do B1G1 50% off occasionally. I have been known to print out several of those coupons :) I found that the sets my DS8 is interested in are rarely included in most retailers "sales". Toys R Us had pretty good deals last year too. I'm impatiently waiting for their Black Friday ad to leak.

This is SO true. I just practically "stole" 3 Harry Potter sets off an online garage sale group on FB. I paid $100 for Hogwarts Castle, The Burrow and the Knight Bus. Ever looked at those on ebay? :cool1: (Not sure if those are for me or DS8 yet. I need to think on that...)

Sorry to hijack the thread! Back to your regularly scheduled programming!

The latest BN coupons now exclude Lego

Last year on black Friday Kmart had the hero factory and star wars sets on sale for B1G1 50% off.

Thats great to know! We always gift sets to charity for Christmas and are looking to stretch each lego dollar! KMart is actually the closest store to us but we never go in..

Right now, my local Walmart has some lego sets in the clearance in the back of the lawn and garden section. I was excited to see the Coast Guard Patrol for $49 (was $89) but I've since seen it elsewhere for around $55.

My DS9 just got his first set (Arctic Base Camp) for his birthday and has really been enjoying putting the stuff together. DH and I have been taking turns helping him when he asks for help finding a piece (he dumped ALL of the blocks in together before we knew what he was doing rattling all those papers up in his room). He is not amused by my jokes about needing the Kragle. :)

I don't know of any deals per se but have also seen clearances sets at WalMart and Meijer mostly. Maybe my imagination but seems like it coincides when Lego releases a new collection. A bunch of not-as-popular, or larger sets end up clearanced. Whenever I see a new Lego collection hit the shelves, I beeline to the clearance section to see what had to go to make room for the new stuff.

Bummer about the new B&N coupons, but there are a lot of good suggestions above. :)

We love legos. I also see them as an investment. I find my deals on brickpicker.com. They list daily deals along with amazon discounted sets.

I tend to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, though the really limited availability sets will be on backorder by then, so it depends on what you're looking for. Last year, I think it was 10% off your purchase (previous years I've seen 15% off) with free shipping on orders over $75 (which is their standard free shipping policy), and if you ordered over $XX you got a free exclusive Holiday set (last year I sold mine on eBay), and over $XX+ you get the Holiday set and $10 egift card. Don't know what thresholds they will implement this year for the extra goodies.

Sign up for the VIP club on the Lego website so you can earn money back; also shop through online portals to get some more money back.

Last year I got the Target 20ish% off coupon if you spent over a certain amount after midnight on Black Friday. I waited to buy lego sets until I went back with that coupon. I remember some of them being on sale for Black Friday but nothing spectacular.

That is a steal. My DS got a Hogwarts Castle from Santa & changed his mind after the return period expired! Santa wanted to kill him! He opened the Burrows & didn't finish building. I don't have the bus, but enough other sets to cry when I see them.

It is good advice to keep the instructions/sets together. It is one more overwhelming chore on my to-do list.

Dsneprincess: Do you still have the HP sets? Put them up for sale and get some cash for Santa!

Thanks for all the Lego info. I have a Lego nut in my house (I don't know who is worse...me or my son. ) I am tired of them being all over the house though.

Call me the Kragle Queen.
