Planning a day at Legoland with my 10 year old son, the lego freak. But, the only day we can be there is New Year's Day....so I'm figuring it will be super crowded. I wanted to put together a good touring plan to help us stay ahead of crowds, but I'm having trouble finding one online. Anyone have any good suggestions? He's 10, so we won't need to do the little bitty kiddie rides. We plan to get there well before park opening, but will need to leave the park about 4pm. Any thoughts are appreciated!

I saw this touring plan online:

We went in Spring 2014. I did not really follow this plan, but followed the general theme park plan formula. Get there at opening, and head straight for the rides you most wants to do. This plan recommends going to the driving school, because the line grows relatively fast there. It has a whole process of getting kids through "training" then out on the course. The coasters are all decent, but low thrill. The dragon one will have the longest line. The other rides we liked were the Buzz-Lightyear-like shooting ride and the Chima water ride (you will likely get wet, so consider that). The other key part at the park is to ignore the really cool Lego creations in the center of the park until later in the day. I think a lot of people stop there in the morning, lose an hour or so, then find the lines have built up.

If your DS wants to do the Driving Academy, I'd head there first. We went over Spring Break (no where near Christmas crowds, but still!) and the only spot we had a real wait in the park was at the Driving Academy, just because it's a "slow loader". Which, that bit of advice fits in with what the touring plan shown said, so I feel like it's probably over all good advice.

We are going on New Year's Day too. I am going through the list of rides with my kids, ages 8 and 11. We will hit their must do's first, especially the slow loading ones. Everything else will be a bonus. My 8 year old is so excited! He is not a huge rides person, but loves loves loves legos. My 11 year old is more excited about going to Busch Gardens the next day, as she is a huge roller coaster fan. I would love more advice about a touring plan too.
