Trying to decide when to do a one day trip to legoland. We have family in SoCal, so we would stay with them and make a day trip. I don't mind the heat and the lines at DLR in summer, because I'm a disney nut, but I would not endure that for legoland. How crowded does it get there on a summer weekday? Crazy? Our other option is any weekend that school is in session, or sometime during the week of Jan 9-13th. Any advice is appreciated. TIA!

We went a few years ago on a Monday at the very end of November. The weather was beautiful....and I was very glad that it was not any hotter. (But I hate the heat.) My vote would be for January. We had such a nice day at LL, and I'm sure part of that was due to the mild temperature and the low, weekday crowds. On the flip side, we didn't do any of the water play areas, although it was certainly warm enough to do so. All they had then were free, splash play areas. Now that they have that awesome looking water park, a summer trip might be worth it. But unless you are going to spend a day at the water park, my vote is still Jan. Happy planning!!!

Years ago we took our boys there in April when they were in Pre-k. LONG time ago! :rotfl: Anyway, it started raining and some rides were shut down and it was hard to see the things made out of Legos in the rain. To me it seemed a little harder to do than DLR in the rain and we missed out on a lot. So you might want to keep that in mind. It might rain in Jan. whereas it would be very rare in the summer.

Yes, the weather could make a diff, good point. When we did DLR in Jan, it was gorgeous- high 70s. We did DLR this past Thanksgiving and it was freezing and rainy, whereas the previous poster did LL end of Nov and had lovely weather. You just never know. The other factor with kids is health. Generally, no one is sick is summer. In winter, plans aren't finalized until we are sure everyone will be well for a trip. Winter vacations are always surprises for the kids.

While there are some good points above about going hot enough for the kids to enjoy the water park, and the possibility of rain in some winter months.

Also remember that LL is not open 365 days a year. Other than summer it's mostly only open 10am to 5pm and closed a couple days a week. So incorporate that into your planning if you go, not in summer.

As far as lines, it's not crazy on summer weekdays but it is busy. And without FP for the top attractions I didn't like many of the wait times. It is kind of like waiting 35 minutes for Gadget's go Coaster, great for kids, but a long wait for such a quick ride.
