It surely more about common sense... I just cannot understand why ANYONE would feel like a mother would need to 'hide away' to feed her child!

I don't have kids, so I really don't know this, but you actually breastfeed a 2 year old? I thought by the age of 2 a child could eat actual food. At least I know my 2 year old niece is.

But I can understand how a mom could get upset over this, but I also can see Legoland's point as well.

There are still dinosaurs in the world, but good that Legoland made it clear that they were not discriminating against breast-feeding mothers.

I'm with you on this. 2 years old seems a bit old to me. But I guess that's a personal choice.

However, I'm thinking they need to make the law more specific, because, honestly, I don't think it applies in this case:

Florida law 383.015 on Maternal and Infant Health Care states:

A mother may breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether or not the nipple of the mother's breast is covered during or incidental to the breastfeeding.

The title specifically says "Infant", and the text refers to "baby". I don't think a 2-year-old qualifies as either.

Lurker, but listener, coming out to answer this. Most 2 year olds do eat plenty of solids and some of them may still nurse. They are not mutually exclusive. The WHO recommends nursing to age 2 and in many parts of the world it is normal. Breast feeding rates & overall success are low in this country and much of that has to do with lack of education and those who think its gross or weird. Ok, off my soapbox!

It appears that someone originally gave an incorrect implication to the "Model Citizens" (Legoland's name for their employees) that nursing could only be done at the Baby Care Center. It appears that as soon as this was brought to their attention (especially with a TV team) they corrected their misinformation. The official word out is that breastfeeding is allowed anywhere in the Park, but that if mothers want privacy they can go to the Baby Care Center.

It seems that a semi-big fuss is being made over a minor incident.

The 2 year old does qualify. As long as the mother wants to breastfeed its o.k. However they should be receiving solid food and starting to be weaned if not before. Studies show that these babies are healthier. Also, we have to look at the developmental age of the child because all premies and fullterm babies dont conform to the standard curve. my 18moth old wont eat pizza but still downs mashed potatoes.

As a husband who has supported his wife's desire to breast feed all our children and the challenges mothers have had to take up with having breast feeding being generally accepted, I would not concur that it is minor nor a fuss being made out of nothing.

Good that Legoland retracted the misinterpretation but it also highlights that it is still not generally accepted that breast feeding is perfectly natural, best for baby and totally acceptable in a public place.
