Legoland area hotels (near beach)-plz recommend!

Hi all!
We're planning our 1st ever trip to LEGOLAND in July (ugh, I know) and I have NO CLUE which hotel to stay at.

There seem to be 2 or 3 onsite/attached...but they are WAY to pricey for us.

So, I was wondering if anyone has any hotel recommendations for LEGOLAND that are also near the beach, since that is one part of our trip too--to hit the beach!

We stayed at the Best Western Beach View lodge in Carlsbad. It's about 4 miles from LL and is right across the beach. room rate includes continental breakfast. The room had a microwave and mini-fridge and a safe large enough to hold a laptop. You also get free Internet. The room was big and clean. The only downside was they had 2 full beds, not Queens.

Their Internet room rates are decent but one thing to keep in mind is that they will charge your credit card for the full amount when you make the reservation. However, if you decide to cancel within the grace period, they will refund the full amount. We had made reservations 3 weeks in advance and then a week later, I found their rates had dropped further, so I canceled my original reservation and rebooked at the new rate. I was refunded the original charge in full.
