and it was NOT pretty. I waited until yesterday to order because Lego had sent me emails and a postcard touting their big sale. So I went on yesterday to order and I waited and waited for pages to load, and finally gave up and called instead.

When I got through, I was told they were doing system upgrades/updates (sound familiar?!) and to call back in one hour. Like a dutiful BlkFri shopper, I did so only to be told to call back in ANOTHER hour. Um.. WHAT?! But, like a fool, I did what they asked as the person I spoke with said the web site was down and wouldn't accept orders either. When I called a third time and was told the same thing, I was nearly ready to give up.

So I finally broke down and tried going through the web site to order my son his big Santa gift - Hogwart's Castle - as well as a few smaller items from us and DGrandparents (made arrangements with them in advance to order everything because of free shipping and 10% off). It took FOREVER to load each page on the web site and submit all the shipping and payment information, but it finally went through after probably 45+ minutes (I started the whole Lego odyssey in the morning and finally submitted the online order about 4pm). I was so glad to have that done, as that castle is DSs big gift for the holiday and it showed as available, as did everything else, so all was well...or so I thought.

Evidently Lego had trouble with their web site yesterday (understatement) and it wasn't updating to show the true availability of items. Needless to say, that Lego set will not make it for Christmas - it is now showing an anticipated ship date of January 30th. Reeeeeally useful as a Christmas gift. :rolleyes1

I had no idea there was an issue until I got an email late last night. I called their CS deparment to see what the story was, and the gentleman I spoke with said (and I am quoting) "there is a zero percent chance you will have that item for Christmas". :sad2: He was very apologetic, and I can only imagine the kind of day they were having dealing with stressed out shoppers like me.

Bottom line - so much for trying to save 10% on Legos - now the gift my DS wanted will end up costing me MORE than the list price if I am to get it for him. The only place that *might* have it is TRU, and they charge $20 OVER list price. I tried Target and WalMart and such to no avail.

Oh, and to top it off - Lego is unexpectedly closed today! I tried calling their customer service department about one of the smaller items I had ordered...which was available when I submitted my order but is now showing as backordered. Hmmm...this is starting to sound familiar. :rolleyes1 I haven't even receive an email about that issue yet. I can only keep my fingers crossed and hope that item actually ships as it is also not available locally. Of the four items I ordered, two have shipped (DGrandparents present and a tiny stocking stuffer) and the two that were actually to be from us to DS are backordered, probably until after the new year.

I don't know if this helps (Not a HP fan so I don't know the "normal" price) but the castle is on Amazon for 150.XX (Much better than the 400.XX price from a Google search)

It's not Hogwart's Castle but I got a Toy Story 3 set at Border's for 1/2 price with a coupon. I was really excited about it because my DS7 was with me and staring at it forever and I couldn't divert his attention elsewhere. Finally I made him stay with my older daughter while I went "up to the front to check the price" and bought it. I snuck it in the car real quick. He's going to be so excited. :)

Do you live anywhere near a Lego store? I wonder if they would have it in stock...or be able to get it for you from another store?

When I got off the phone with Lego customer service, I called five or six different Lego stores (DTD, a couple in NJ, MA, etc) and none of them had them in stock. I asked each store if they knew where to try, and they said that from what they knew none of the stores had them.

I also tried Target - went in and asked someone there to check their stock as well as other stores, to no avail. None showing in the system.

I did break down and go to TRU and got what I needed, the BIG gift for this year. It cost me $149.99 instead of $116 and change, but better the extra $33 than trying to figure out a second choice for the Santa gift. :thumbsup2 As for trying TRU online, it comes up as out of stock there, so in store pickup was the only way to do it, which doesn't allow use of the coupon. :sad2:

All in all, I'm just really glad to have that thing in hand so I don't have to worry about it!
