My DS 11 is begging for a Lego mindstorm for Christmas. Does anyone have any advice on how to get this a little cheaper. The cheapest I've seen it is for $219:scared1: on amazon.com

TIA

I wish I had something for you. My son is 7 and put this on his list. He is still too little to have any concept of what things cost really. When I explained that if he really wanted this he wasn't going to get many other things he quickly changed his mind. They are so expensive!!

When I explained to my DS that that would be his only present he said ok, but I don't like to spend more than $150 per kid that is still way over budget.

DH and I are talking about raising our budget for all three (DH is expecting some back pay from work) but that will still be all for him:headache:

He has a tech Ed class in school where they have been working with these and that is all he can talk about. I'm just so torn on what to do.

I think it's a great product and I would definitely spend a little extra. Our kids participated in competitions with these and learned a lot. Look on Craigslist or eBay. You might find a deal there. The Amazon price seems pretty good.

I agree, while, it is expensive, it is a worthwhile gift. My son used his for a long time and made some really amazing stuff with it!

Do you think that amazon deal is on a used set? It does seem way too cheap for a new set.

Oh I hope you don't think I was judging your choice! I would have given it more consideration if my son was older like yours. At 7 though, I don't think it's a gift for this year! As far as Amazon.. I am pretty sure it says specifically if they are used.

No I know you were just giving me the advice/your opinion that I was looking for! Thank you:hug: I just looked on amazon again and it says new. I just hate making these big decisions it was so much easier when they were younger and I could get them anything and they were very happy.:rotfl:

It is so worth it. My DS got his last year, and he uses it all the time! He loves it. We actually got it for his birthday which is in December too. We had his grandparents go it on it, so it was the only thing he got from them and us. We paid around $270.00 plus we got the book to go with it for another $20.00.

I don't like just having one thing under the tree, but somehow it is different for birthdays.

We also had a $150.00 limit per child, but we had to increase it this year. The older they get the more expensive the things they want. :headache:

It is possible to get it cheaper from Barnes and Noble in store using a coupon. There was recently a 40% off educational toy and people were able to use it on Mindstorm. I don't know how often that happens, I would suggest checking slickdeals and sigining up for Mindstorm alerts.

Really??? I tried online and it was excluded and at my store, it was blocked in the system. Regular Lego worked, but not Mindstorms. Now, I'm exrtra sad. :sad1:
