Anyone ever eat here? I am meeting some friends next week at one and have never been. Is it like a Red Lobster (which I do not care for) and how about the prices?

I love seafood so I am sure to find something I like.

Much nicer then Red Lobster. (We are talking fresh seafood here)

Prices are high though.

My food has always been good and I feel like the prices reflect the quality.

Much nicer than Red Lobster. I have had very good meals each time I've eaten there.

Laura--You'll LOVE it!!

I'm assuming you're going to Short Hills? (They have one in paramus too.) Short Hills is the smallest restaurant Legal has in teh chain. The manager almost always will stop by to check on you while you're there, which I like. :)

It's probably my favorite seafood restaurant anywhere.

The prices aren't high for this area, for the quality of the food they're right in line.

It's a great atmosphere, not too casual, not to formal, definitely a step up from Red lobster. A BIG step as far as the food goes.

We ate at Red Lobster last night, and the entire time we were there I was wishing we were at Legal instead.

Make sure to get a reservation, they book up! I usually make the reservation at least a week in advance! We went there for Valentines Day and I booked over a month in advance.

I'ts not a romantic place, but the food is fantastic!

I really enjoy Legal Seafood. It is definitely fresh seafood and the clam chowder is excellent.

Red Lobster has the BEST looking commercials...too bad the food is so awful :)
Legal's is a 100 times better!

We only eat at Legal Seafood when we are flying out of DCA airport. It's the only airport where DH has no problem getting me there 3 hours early because I always look forward to my lunch/dinner at Legal Seafood before flying out. Yum! And this is in an airport. The food is wonderful and so is the staff, but they never seemed particularly overpriced to me for a nice restaurant in a metro area (But then again I haven't eaten in red lobster in years so I wouldn't expect seafood entrees for $10 or anything).

Legal's is wonderful seafood....nothing like Red Lobster...no offense to all Red Lobster lovers but Legal Seafood is on a whole different level.

Wonderful food! They've got a chocolate creme cake dessert that's to die for.

That reminds me... I've got 2 gift certificates for LS that I haven't used yet.

Why can't I get a Legal Seafood where I live???:( I love seafood and my only option is Red Lobster.

Woa - not even on the same restaurant planet as Red Lobster. That's a total insult to Legal. They are a high end seafood restaurant. You will love it. I eat at Legal for work about twice per month. It is fabulous food. Their clam chowder is to die for too. I like it very thick and creamy and they accomplish that with panache.

OMG!.............. a neighbor! We just ate at the Short Hills Legal Seafood last Saturday night. It was exceptionally fresh (the only way I'll eat any seafood.) You've made a good choice. Enjoy!
P.S. There's some great shopping in that mall, too, if you have a few minutes before or after :p

Thanks for all the replies. To be honest I had never even heard of it. I thought for sure it was just another chain type restaurant. My friend who picked the place is not known for her "gourmet" tastes. She's a twinkie kinda gal;)

This is their motto:
Freshness
Freshness Can’t Be Told—It Must Be Tasted!
"If it isn't fresh, it isn't Legal!" has served as our motto for decades. And, when we say fresh, we really mean it! Because we began as a seafood company, we are the source of the best, freshest fish available. We personally choose all our stock, we do not use any brokers or middlemen. Our fish buyers work with licensed, certified boats whose captains bring their finest catch directly to us. It's what we call "top of the catch," meaning the freshest fish caught just before the boat returns to the pier, hence the part of the catch placed on the very top of the pile in the hold. Because we buy so much fish, and because we've worked with the same New England fishing families for so long, we command the choicest lots available. We've earned the title "Fanatics for Freshness!"
