Legal drinking age in France...

Hi,

What is the legal age..? I read that under 18's can drink beer etc but not liqueurs. Is that right as there were a few differing opinions.

My eldest step son is 17. I am taking him over Christmas time and was thinking I might buy him his first lager in one of the hotel bars..

Im sure they raised the age to 18 for all alcohol a few years back

Is that the buying age or the actual age of consumption..? So would it be illegal if I brought him one at 17 then?.

according to wikipedia, its 18 for buying alcohol (ie selling alcohol to an under-18 is not allowed) but there is no legal age for consumption.
