DH taught me the phrase a number of years ago, after too many times of me accidently tightening something instead of loosening, like a water valve.

My Dad taught me that when I was a kid. I still have to think which way it really means (clockwise vs. counter-clockwise). It's funny to watch my husband just shake his head every time I have to try and figure it out again. You'd think I'd learn....

Sure, I've heard it. I used to work with a bunch of car mechanics and they taught me that. It's pretty helpful, actually!
