Hello Everyone. We leave tomorrow for our first trip to Disney:goodvibes we are very excited but just recently learned that our 9 year old son has several noncancerous tumors growing on his knee cap and shins. He is a typical 9 year old boy in that he plays sports, goes bike riding etc. but by the end of the day he is in pain and extremely tired. He is on medication for pain and inflamation but his legs still hurt if he has had an active day. My questions to all of you is does Disney or anyone else have a stroller that he could fit in? He would not be using it all day only when it hurts to much to walk great distances or he gets tired. Also would this qualify him for those cards or passes that allow him get through a line quicker or allow him to sit during the wait? Would I need a doctors note?

Any information that you could give me about how to make his first visit an enjoyable one and not a painful one would be greatly appricated.

Thanks so much!!!
Tina

The regular Disney rental strollers are quite large and easily accomodate older children. If he feels a little squished in the single stroller, a double would give him a lot more room.

You can also check out some of the outside stroller rental companies. Some have larger strollers for older special needs children that could easily accomodate a 9yo. There's some information in Sue's sticky at the top of this forum with info on stroller rental.

Here's a portion of Sue's FAQ sticky...

Strollers & Special Needs Strollers
Care Medical rents these special needs strollers: Maclaren "Major Buggy" and Pogon. They also rent pediatric bath lifts.

A Baby's Best Friend rents strollers and other equipment for babies and toddlers. Check the weight limit for strollers because some are only up to 40 pounds.

Orlando Stroller Rentals rents a variety of Baby Jogger brand strollers, including a Special Needs version of the Baby Jogger that is made for people up to 100 pounds. The weight limit for a regular single stroller is 50 pounds, double stroller is 100 pounds, and sit and stand is 40 pounds for the front seat and 50 pounds for the rear seat or platform. There has been some VERY good feedback from people renting from this company for both regular and special needs strollers.

There are also pictures of Disney's rental strollers so you can see what they look like.

As for your question about getting through lines quicker or being allowed to sit, you can obtain a GAC from guest services in any park. It will not let you bypass lines, but you explain your child's needs and they will give you a card stating what accomodations you will need. You can get a card that allows a stroller to be treated as a wheelchair and be allowed in lines. You can also request a GAC allowing you to wait in an area with seating. Again, check out Sue's FAQ sticky for info on this.

The most useful thing for you is t get a "Stroller as wheelchair" tag, which will allow you to take the stroller into lines. This should allow him to rest more often and decrease pain. there is no card that allows you to bypass lines, and there is really nowhere to sit in the lines. The stroller, however, should be helpful for this!

We rent a double stroller for my son. Last year he was 7 1/2, was 54 inches tall and weighed 80 lbs. He had room to sit and we also had room for our backpack. You will get comments/remarks and stared at but who cares, as long as your child is comfortable that's all that matters.

Have a great trip! We'll be there Saturday. If I see a big 9 year old in a stroller I'll be the one smiling and saying hi instead of looking at you funny!
