I bet Beverly Lynn would know this one...

some friends are trying to get to WDW in October. The best deal they can find is to TPA for $78. Flights to MCO are at least twice that. The connection is in ORLANDO. If they just got off the plane and didn't connect, could they get back home.

The first part would be easy. Delta isn't going to grab them by the ankles. But I think they'll have trouble when they go to Tampa to start the return and even more trouble if they tried to board at MCO.

Anyone tried/experienced this?

I am not sure, but I think if you don't take both legs of your connection the airline has the right to cancel the return portion of your trip. This may depend on the airline. I am sure others here can verify this as fact or dispute it..

Are your friends planning on renting a car? If they are maybe they could just drive back to Orlando from Tampa. It is only a little over an hour ride. Just a thought.

If you do not board a flight segment, Delta will cancel the entire ticket ... in other words, don't do it ...

The drive from TPA is not that bad ...

plus if they send any bags thru they will go on to TPA without them. and if they don't make their connection they will get cancelled and it will be a holy terror trying to reinstate their reservation. and then they could be charged more money in the meantime.
