Has anyone else left their laptops in their rooms? We left ours last year with no problems at the Contemporary but I'm having second thoughts this year. We'll have 2 laptops, one in each room, and I'd be really upset if this was stolen, as we JUST got it last week.

TIA! :earsgirl:

I plan on taking mine and will use the cable lock wrapped around a table leg..

We brought ours when we went in March and had no problem. We just hid it so it couldn't be seen since it couldn't fit in the safe at ASSps.

I would use the safe as the 1st option and if not get a cable lock as you can never be too sure. You can easily attach the cable lock to anything that's too big to easily move

Last year at AKL, I left the safe open with the key in it and the light on in the closet with the door of the closet opened. Had all of our money, credit cards.
Housekeeping came in for turn down service and nothing was missing. I wouldn't worry to much about the laptop maybe secure it with a lock.
I'm so scattered brained sometimes, see what happens when you have kids???

I brought mine last time we stayed at CSR. It did not fit in the safe. I kept it in my laptop bag which looks like a typical backpack and had no problems. As others have mentioned, a cable lock would be a lot safer though. Decided not to take mine this time. I am not going use the internet and will be using an X-Drive for storing digital photos.

We usually bring a lap top with us. This time it was too big to fit in the safe at ASM, so we just hid under our clothes in a drawer. We often bring a lap top when we travel and haven't had a problem. I do wish it would have fit in the safe. I think I read somewhere that some hotels have bigger safes than others. HTH

Since you would be really upset, then lock it up. A hundred people can tell you they have had no problems and you could.

Only you can prevent it from happening. I don't lock mine, but then I don't worry about it either.

I'm not sure that I even need my laptop at Disney. After all, I can tell my co-workers that I'm leaving it at home, so no one will even think they can get into contact with me.

I am going on VACATION, after all! LOL Thanks for all the replies!

Last yr we brought ours to the POLY & AKL without a second thought.
Will be doing same this yr at OKW & AKL.
My dtr & niece use it mainly to watch DVDs and play games on the 24 hr drive down and home.
Frankly, I feel big $$ items like that are safer in the rooms than cheaper things. The Mousekeepers have to know that a missing laptop is going to get reported. If it happens too often it will attract attention.

I wouldn't, even with a lock...don't even like to think of an accident at the hands of housekeeping.

But if you do keep it out with a cable lock , keep a security page up if you have any sensitive info contained in the system itself.

Just spent a week at POFQ and kept it in a locked suitcase. All went well. :D

Was at CBR for a week over Easter and left lapotop out on table the whole time. Was downloading photos from camera and checking email daily. I just shut it down and closed before leaving everyday and never had a problem. Stayed at CBR before and never had any problem leaving things out in full view. The safe is not an option because it is too small, barely enough room for cash, credit cards, flight info. etc.

we always bring a laptop (we can run home lighting & security, and heating/cooling systems via internet) and have never had a problem. This said, it would definitely be prudent to keep it in a locked suitcase or use a cable lock to secure it. My DH tends to forget to lock it up and we have had no problems thus far, but there's always a first time, right? Treat it the same as you would any other valuable.

I left mine out on the table at CSR in October and didn't have a problem. After I got home I thought about the risk I'd taken and realized how lucky I was that nothing had happened to it. I've decided that from now on I'll either lock it in a suitcase or get a security cable. It's not worth the risk.

I know it's not exactly on topic, but who better to ask than people bringing their laptops? :teeth:

Do you know which resorts offer in-room DSL or other high-speed connections? Do they charge extra and how much?

Thanks!

This info is from Mousesavers:

Internet Access
Dial-Up Access with a Laptop

All of Disney's resorts have data ports on the phones. If you want to access the Internet from your hotel room using the data port, you'll need a dial-up account. Remember that they'll charge you .75 each time you connect, even to a local or toll-free number.

Off-site, you'll find that pretty much any decent hotel in the area will have data ports on the phones. If you want to access the Internet from your hotel room, you'll need a dial-up account. Hotels vary widely on how much (if anything) is charged for local and toll-free calls, so be sure to check before using dial-up access.

High-Speed Access with a Laptop

All of Disney's convention hotels and Home-Away-From-Home/Disney Vacation Club resorts (Beach Club Villas, Boardwalk Villas, Contemporary, Coronado Springs, Grand Floridian, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, Villas at Wilderness Lodge and Yacht Club) have wired high-speed Internet in all guest rooms. There is a charge of $9.95 per 24 hour period.

Disney now offers Wi-Fi (high speed wireless Internet access) in the public areas of its convention hotels. You will need a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer or PDA to access the Internet from designated areas of each resort. Your credit card is billed through an on-screen Internet connection. Use of this service requires a wireless interface card (WIC), available for purchase in the resort's business center. It costs $9.95 for a 24-hour period.

Locations for Disney's Wi-Fi access:

Contemporary - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool
Coronado Springs - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Feature Pool, Francisco's
Grand Floridian - Main Lobby, Convention Center Hallway, Beach Pool
Yacht & Beach Club - Main Lobbies, Convention Center Hallway, Stormalong Bay Pool

Hope this helps!
