We're leaving tomorrow on our first DVC trip. We're heading off to Hilton Head and we have a few quick questions.

1. We know that you can rent chairs and umbrellas from the lifeguards on the beach. How much are the rentals? And do they have anything else for rent (ie. boogie boards and such)?

2. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we won't have a rainy day, but just in case we were wondering about what to do? We know that they have videos for rent there, but do they tend to be wiped out on rainy days? My one son (15) wants to know if they have anything other than Disney videos for rent there, as well.

Thank you all so much for your time. The boards have been incredibly helpful to us as we prepared for this trip.

We just returned from Hilton Head. We rented the chairs (2) and umbrella from the lifeguard at a cost of $25 for the 1st day and $15 each consecutive day. For us, 7 days came to $115. While it was nice to have them when we wanted them, there were a couple of days when we could have skipped the beach and just stayed at the pool, but felt like we needed to go to the beach because we already paid for the chairs and umbrella. We also have a 17 month old who napped on the beach some days and it was nice to relax in the shade while holding him. I'm not sure we'd spend the money next time. The lifeguards also rent bikes at $8.00 for 1/2 hour and $12 for the hour. These are not regular bikes but have a seat which is much lower to the ground and a little more difficult to ride -- although our 6 year old didn't have any problems....go figure. Did not see any boogie board rentals -- we bought our at Target on the way in. Also think we saw them at WalMart.

We had 1 day of rain, off and on. It didn't stop us from enjoying the day. We didn't hunt down anything to do when it rained because it was off and on. We did end up going to dinner earlier than we would have other wise but it was okay because we had to wait anyway (in another rain shower). That evening we went to the Old Oyster Factory which we thought was good.

They do have videos there to rent -- alot of them are Disney. There were a couple that were for a more mature audience but they were older. There is a Blockbuster just down the street from the Disney property.

Enjoy Hilton Head. We're looking forward to a trip there again next summer.

Hi

There is a Family Fun Park place down the main street about a mile that our kids had a lot of fun at. Miniature golf outside and an indoor park with huge slides and games - so that would be a good place if it rains. You didn't ask about food - but if you like Southwestern food , there is a GREAT restaurant in a little strip mall across the main road from Shelter Cove (to the right if you're exiting - I think it's called Santa Fe Cafe). There is a seafood place too at the same place (the name sounds french - I can't remember it right now though) that is excellent as well - about the same price as the standard more touristy seafood places all over. HH is a lot of fun - have a great trip!

You may want to buy a cheap umbrella and chairs on the way in to HH. It is much cheaper than renting and you can simply "donate" them on the way out.

There are many activities on HH and your son should not be bored. Also, you can call the activities desk at the resort and they will fax you the activities schedule for the week. That should help you in your planning.

Have a great trip! I'll be there the week of the 26th.

You can rent boogie boards from the lifeguard on the beach. If they're not available from the lifeguard in front of the Disney property just walk either left or right to the next lifeguard stand, right at the adjacent condo properties. There should be some available along with the beach bikes which are lots of fun.

Hilton Head has a fabulous skate park at the Crossings park off Palmetto Bay Road. (Make a
right at Sea Pines Circle). If your son is into skateboarding or rollerblading, it is definitely worth a visit--ramps, a half pipe, etc. I'm pretty sure you can rent rollerblades at Outside
Hilton Head at the Plaza at Shelter Cove. I don't know if they rent skateboards.

The indoor amusement area referred to in an earlier reply is called Adventure Cove and is
located at the intersection of William Hilton Parkway and Folly Field Road. Outdoors they have
two miniature golf courses, a driving range and batting cages. Indoors they have bumper cars, 3d Virtual reality theatre, a roller coaster simulator, a jump zone VR parachuting
simulator, lazer tag and loads of video games. It gets VERY crowded on rainy days. My kids
love it.

There is a small, repeat small, water park on South Forest Beach Drive with 3 water slides.
It's good for an hour or two in the afternoon.

Enjoy your trip.
