My 22 month old has a very mild case of hand foot and mouth. No fever, a few sores that do not even bother him. Has anyone else had it this way? I am so scared that the doctor is wrong and that it will get worse. The dr. said since he had it since Saturday, he is not contagious anymore and we have seen the worst of it.:confused3

They said my 8 yr old DD should not get it. Please tell me that is true!!

We leave late Wednesday to see Mickey!!

That should be correct. I worked in day care and lots of our kids had mild cases like that. I would say that if he hasn't gotten worse by now the worst is probably over.

When my daughter and nephew were 2 they came down with it on our second day there. No big deal, we went on with our vacation. they both had horrible mouth sores and wouldn;t eat much, but no fevers.
Its not soemthing I would worry about too much, even if the older child got it.

My DS had it when he was 7 months. Only had it in his mouth. The sores never got worse, and never seemed to bother him. I think you will be fine.

My now-5yo son had it when he was 2yo - all I noticed was he had fever and didn't feel good. Doc told me it was hand/foot/mouth - and told me to buy ice pops and applesauce and get whatever into my child that I could - that the sores are so painful they often won't eat or drink for days.

Well, a little Motrin and he was fine. He never even went on a liquid diet - not so much as a whimper.

So, while it can be really painful, it seems like there can be much milder cases - sounds like you "lucked out" with am ild case as well!

Thank goodness it's mild! My son had a scary high fever for 9 days straight and sores in his throat! It started bad and stayed bad, but did not worsen over the week. Suddenly on day 10 the fever broke and he was well.

Your 8 yo has probably been exposed and will not get it, though it happens occasionally.

My dd had hand, foot and mouth twice (one on top of the other) but both times were not a problem, mild analgesia to keep her fever down and soft foods for a few days.
You will be fine in 9 days. It is more common in very young children so your 8 y.o. should be fine. Kids have amazing timing don't they??
Have a lovely trip.

My almost 16 year old has it now. I just had him at the Dr. yesterday. He had it when he was little and has it again now. The Dr. said she has seen an unusuall amount of older kids with it this year.

My daughter had this too..the fever was the main issue..we just made sure she had tylenol, and kept an eye on her. Luckily there were no sores on the outside of her mouth..she had like thrush on the inside. But, she was ok after a few days, neither one of her brothers got it.:worship:
