Hi everyone, I was so happy to find this board. Sorry if I'm asking duplicate questions. We are leaving in 3 weeks with some family. My sister, who is 22, just broke her ankle, had surgery yesterday and is now in a cast and has crutches. We realize she will need a scooter. Does she need to get a guest assistance card? Will she be able to go on most of the rides? We are trying to make it easier on her. Any advice or experiences would be great. Thanks

My SIL broke her ankle (also had surgery to insert pins and screws) a few weeks ago and we are headed to the F&WF next Thursday. Her doctor said absolutely no roller coasters or putting any weight on the foot. We ordered a scooter from Walker Mobility. As I started thinking about various rides, some seem ok, but others I thought would be tame have other issues such as moving walkways approaching the ride (Haunted Mansion, People Mover). As this is not our first visit to WDW, we are resigned to taking things slower and enjoying the World at a different pace. I'm fine with that!

I would read the information in the sticky at the start of the forum about disAblilities. It had a lot of info about rides and other things that might be of concern for you.

Just as an FYI, some, but not all rides with moving walkways can be slowed or stopped. Haunted Mansion is one of them that can be stopped. People mover can't be and the Peter Pan ride is another one that can't be unless it is at certain times. All of this is spelled out better in the sticky at the beginning of the forum.

No, she does not need a GAC. The scooter, as well as the cast is 'visible' enough for CM's to see her needs.

She should be able to get into any ride she wants to...but be aware that injuries, and especially surgery are tough on the body. She will become tired a lot faster, and moving her leg around with the extra weight of the cast will be tiresome. Make sure to take lots of breaks, and don't push too hard. Also, take your time, the CM's will wait for you. :thumbsup2
