I am planning our first visit to the Fort in June of next year. I along with my wife and kids are super excited to try this new adventure. We are not "CAMPERS", but my Mom and Dad bought a 30' bumper pull trailer and they said that we can use it for our trip. From what i have read here on the boards, everyone loves camping at the Fort and I just have to try it for myself. I have one question. Where is a good place to stay during our trip down to the Fort? I'm thinking I can get to Tallahhassee the first day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hey Tiger Man,

We too are from Shreveport, and headed to disney as well, but we dont arrive till the 5th of June at the fort.

We plan on leaving S'port early Sat (june4) morn, 4 am and drive till 6-7p
hopfully stopping somplace 2-3 hrs from the Fort. Then head on in mid morning to the fort.
the fort is 15 hrs drive

we have a class C so Im hoping this will help with the kids and will be able to stay on the road longer.

If Im correct I think Panama city is half way sooooo anything pat that would be good!!

You say your not a "Camper" I highly recommend taking that new camper out and towing it a few times, a trip to WDW is a 15 hr drive, might be good idea to get a few trips under yuour belt as well take it out for a few "trial and error" camping trips, there are some GREAT places near us that are close, lake Claibourne state park (1 hr), Grand Bayou in Cashatta (1 hr), and with in 3 hrs there some of the best spots in AR.

I agree with PP. Take the camper out for a trial camping run. That would be a good way to practice setting up at you site. It will make for a much more enjoyable trip to FW.

Check out KOA's website because they have two campgrounds around Tallahassee. We normally stay at one of these campgrounds on Friday night and arrive at FW on Saturday.

We will be there from May 28th through June 4th!

My suggestion would be this.
If you can leave early (real early, like 4:00) on the day of your departure, drive all the way to Yogi Bear's Jellystone camp resort near Madison, Florida (about 50 miles East of Tallahassee). Then you will have time to relax and swim. It is a very nice park, but a long drive for day one. Most of their sites are pull throughs, so request one so you won't have to fool with unhooking for just one night. This is their website.

The good part is since you have driven that far on day one, you can sleep a little late, then head on down to the Fort, which is only 200 miles away.

If you won't have time to enjoy the water park activities at Yogi Bear and you want to save a few bucks, there is another campground called Deerwood Madison Campground at the same exit (I think it is still there).

got to looking, we are going to leave at 4 am and travel to Lake City FL, its 12 hrs from S'port, get in around 6-7 (remember you loose an hr)WDW is 3 hrs drive south
