Cripes! I feel for the pilots, but I also feel for those of us needing them to fly us! I have a feeling Delta won't be around for long and that is really too bad. It figures that I also have flights booked through them for August...

I know what you mean. CNN says that even if the strike is only 24 hours it would cause them to go out of business. Apparently they havent agreed WHEN to strike so its possible it wont happen. We've got the flight for our Carnival cruise booked for May 6 using frequent flyer miles. And I have enough miles for ANOTHER flight. Now I am worried about not only getting to my cruise but losing all those miles that I built up :furious:

We have been keeping an eye on this and have NOT purchased our tickets to NY for July as I wanted to see how this played out. I was just checking prices online when I saw this come in. I might as well just go with another carrier at some point, though their prices are higher at this point.

Good luck with your trip! I know we have put a lot of $$ into NY already with Broadway, baseball tickets and such, so we MUST get a reliable flight. I feel your pain/worry though!

And now they don't even have our departing flight on their web site.. :( I sent them off an e-mail asking what was going on and I hope they answer.

Good luck to all of us needing our flights!

I hope something is amiss with that website. We tried looking at the flights this past weekend that we were interested in and most of them were gone. They are regular daily flights too. I could get them by searching one leg at a time, but not the entire flight. Weird! And half the flight cost twice as much as the entire flight had been. :smooth: Let us know what you find out! Good luck! :wizard:

Jill, I know it's easier said than done, but take a deep breath and relax (says the girl who is holding Delta tix for next February).

Bill from PA brought up a GREAT point on a thread on the transportation board. They've not agreed to strike, all they've done is vote to authorize a strike. The pilots and management are still negotiating, and while I might be living in a dream world, I still do think they will come to some resolution.

My DH works in a Union (Teamster) shop. The past THREE contracts the union membership has had to vote yes or no on whether to authorize a strike. All three times they voted "YES", and all three times there was no strike.

I still think we have to wait and see, and try not to worry too much, but maybe start thinking of a contingency plan

I am also holding Delta tickets for next December. Try to stay calm. I think these things are all part of the negotiations and I don't believe that Delta wants to go out of business.

I did get a personal reply from my e-mail. I was told that customers were their priority and they would never leave us hanging. I hope that is true, but there is not much they can do if the airline goes completely under. I had to send another e-mail since they never answered my question about why our flight isn't listed on their web site!

Does anyone know what happened with Delta, specifically SONG? Our family LOVES that airline and the non-stop flights to Orlando from Boston. We also liked the tv screens and even the food they served. And their color was the DIS green! :) Whenever we flew them the flights were always full so we don't understand why they are ceasing to exist as of May 1st. :confused3

Song wasn't charging enough to cover the costs of operating the airline separately from the parent.

The nicer jets with the TVs in the seat backs have been retasked to Delta's cross-country flights.

I think that the court would order a "cooling off" period, particularly since they are in bankruptsy and have to follow certain rules. We have our award seats (6) for Hawaii this August and so we are certainly hoping for the best, in addition to the tickets I bought for FLL next January. Surely the pilots realize that they could kill their goose, even if it doesn't lay golden eggs. Gerry Grenstein is determined to save Delta and has taken significant cuts in pay himself. Fortunately they have continued to honor award seats because to not do that would kill any consumer loyalty that they have.

Where are you looking for your flight? If you are looking in the reservation system and it's not showing, chances are it is totally booked.

As for the strike, voting to authorize a strike is another scare tactic by the pilots. They know that if they do strike that would probably be the end of Delta and none of them will have jobs. And there won't be any jobs out there for them to take. Sure some airlines may absorb some of the equipment, but I don't think that would happen too fast.

I thought Delta was already out of business? like they went bankrupt. I guess I was wrong...well we have a flight in June for Delta but through song.

Delta is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy which protects it as it goes through reorganization. It is still very much in business and operating as normal as airlines operate these days.
