Don't know yet if it's going to cancel our trip. I went to get $4 of groceries yesterday and the card was denied. I knew something was up and went to the ATM to check the balance and my checking was -$900. GAH :furious: :furious: :furious:

I called and had it canceled, and have to go fill out paper work on it today. Hopefully it will be straight in a couple days and they will remove the charges. From what I can add up of charges that shouldn't be there using the online statement they hit me for almost $1800 :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

One really odd thing though was they had charged $600 to a Ancestory tracking service....surely they aren't that dumb :teacher: but I hope they are and I hope they get caught.

I suppose it's bound to happen sooner or later to everyone in this day and age. Cross your fingers and hopefully we will see everyone at the Fort in about 17 days.

Man that stink's !!!!!!!!I hope it alll work's out!I had some one break into my car back in the late 70's and they stole my check book...caught them in Daytona trying to pass a check....Police.... do you want to press charges??????Ya think!!!!!!!!! Bookem Dano.......I was a prison guard at the time (boy i was hoping they would send that punk my way) :woohoo: Yes they are allott of dumb people in the prison system...But there are allott of smart well educated ones as well///Here's sending some south Ga sunshine your way hoping everthing goes your way the next couple of week's!

Ours was stolen after we purchased a CarFax report online. They spent over $3000.00 on auto parts from Australia! :furious:

This sounds like a VISA check (debit) card? If so, never, ever, ever get another one of those things again! A regular VISA credit card gives you so much more protection against theft. :thumbsup2

Yep, it's a Visa check debit. Had it for years and this is the first problem I ever had but I'm reconsidering. It's about fixed though, I just had to wait for all the charges to post. I filled out the paper work on 3 of them thursday and they were removed by friday. Just have to go in and fill out the paper work on the last 3 today and then everything should be fixed.

Good thing too since I leave for FW next Friday

How about if I told you my husband is a police officer in NJ and someone broke into his police car "at the police station" and stole $2,800 cash he had in his duffle bag, that he had to drop off to a mechanic for a GPS and other instruments he had just bought and had installed on his new boat. So believe me, I can relate. Can you imagine, breaking into a police car at the police station!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!

Thats kind of strange. My wife had a credit card stolen about 6 months ago and among the charges made to the account were several to an Ancestory tracking service. There were numberous other charges, all made online, that I could understand, but I have never been able to understand the Ancestory tracking service. It just seems really weird to me. :confused3

I have always been curious why Police officers have to lock their lockers at the station ?

I'm sorry that happened and glad it worked out ok.

If you ever read the Budget Board about debit cards, people suggest not having them! It's not that problems aren't fixed, but that they can cause a lot more trouble and take longer to be resolved.

If you had been at Disney while this happened, it could have been a huge mess! But if it was your (regular) credit card, it would have been fixed more quickly, and no one would have emptied your checking account.

Our bank ATM card is also a debit card. I do not use it other than at the bank to make or to occasionally withdraw cash. However...both my older kids...use them regularly. I can't get it through to them to take out the cash they need. ALL of their friends use their debit cards just like cash. The love the convenience of it. I think it gets them in trouble..spending more than they should until their checking accounts are empty...and THEN they come to the IBM...THE INTERNATIONAL BANK OF MOM. Budget and take out what you need..I tell them..but it's a different time. I also worry that because often the savings and checking acounts are linked if someone has access to the cards they could wipe out whatever savings they have also.

We do use an ATM card, but it can only access certain accounts. We have a "spending" account that is our weekly cash, and DH & I each have small balance personal checking accounts.

It is possible to not have the savings accounts on the cards. :)

Sorry to here about that. I had a similar experince 3 months ago while vacationing in Dallas. I went to use my card and it was denied. I called the card company and the had a flag on my card because someone had place a $1500 mail order for shoes and $500 in flowers. They were suspicious because this did not match my spending habits. Don't know how someone ended up with my card numbers I only used it to make reservations at the Rv park I was staying at. Glad the card company was looking out for me.

1) We refuse to have a debit card.
2) There are too many things to go wrong.
3) I actually lecture on the problems with debit cards.
. . . too easily copied by card readers when handed over for processing
. . . fast access to your accounts when account number is stolen
. . . the user gets very little sense of money management
. . . very easy to spend money without due thought or consideration
4) One of our bank accounts wanted to issue us a debit card.
5) We wanted ONLY and card for ATM access.
6) They said they only had debit cards, with ATM access of course.
7) We said, OK, and told them we were going next door.
8) ALL OF A SUDDEN, came out of the drawer an ATM-only card option.

NOTE: The ATM card is far superior to a debit card, because they can only be used at banks and ATM's. You cannot purchase with it at stores or on-line. Since we keep a minimum in that account, and transfer funds when we need more bucks, the possibility of funds loss is extremely low.

I guess we have very good banks up here in ct. They refund money with any fraudulant charge at my bank next business day. So does Bank of America. I hope they catch those crooks! ::cop:
