We will be visiting in September and doing one night with Fantasmic (via FP) and one night with Star Wars Fireworks (via Dessert Party). On the night with Fantasmic, is it possible to "sneak" out of the park ahead of the crowds? I know they sometimes open a backstage route that avoids Sunset Blvd, do they do that every night? Or will we just be stuck behind all of the crowds?

I've never seen a "backstage route". We've always just left with the crowds. It isn't that big of a deal.

I've exited through the backstage exit before but not in many years. They definitely don't do it every time (if at all anymore)

We exited on the "backstage" route last Friday night after Fantasmic. They have signs where you can either go right to watch what's left of the Star wars fireworks or left straight to the exit.

We left after Fantasmic last Saturday and it was insane! It took us almost 45 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. I don't know if that is normal or if there was something going on but definitely be ready for a wait.

Thank you for this helpful insight, I've always had to leave with the crowd.I:earsgirl:

I mean, a lot of crowd still goes on that route, but it wasn't bad at all. I recommend walking in the bleacher rows to get across the amphitheater as the top walkway was at a standstill. We were able to get on the second tram and then it was 7 minutes from when we got in the car until we arrived back at AoA.

The big issue with leaving HS seems to occur when everything ends at the same time. When we were and the fireworks were after Fantasmic, leaving was not so bad because there were a variety of times to leave. Staggered exit seems to work best. Later in the year, they scheduled everything to be over at once. Park close, the end of Fantasmic, and the end of the fireworks occurred at the same time. That was awful. Mass exodus. People couldn't even tell where one bus line ended and the other started. It took us an hour to get back to AK on the bus.

If everything ends at the same time, I would hurry to get out of there, or wait around and relax. Heading for the buses or the parking lot along with everyone else will not be fun at all.
