Leaving a Tip while on the Dining plan...

We've never used the dining plan, but I did hear that tip is not going to be included. Our party will never be over 4, so the 18% won't be added on its own. Do we have to bring cash to tip? Or would we hand them our credit card and be like, "Put such and such amount on there for your tip" Which I think would be rather uncomfortable, but I don't want to carry cash like that with us all the time, plus we don't really ever carry cash anyways...

So how do you think this will work?

I HOPE it will work this way: You'll get a bill showing what you ordered, a total, and then a line showing DDP with the total zeroed out, then a blank line labeled gratuity. You would then fill in that line, hand them your room key, and proceed from there.

You'd need to have a credit card linked to your room key for charging. They give you that option when you check into your resort, if you didn't already know that.

I think I'm just going to take cash with me when I go. That seems the easiest way to do it IMO.

Thanks, I just don't want to be like umm here add $10 for your tip... that would just seem strange, but if it is like in normal places where you add the tip after they process it, that would be much better.

We are traveling with a group of 7 so we are supposed to have the 18% automatically included. I am assuming they will actually hand us a bill for the 18%. While I don't begrudge them the tip, it will seem odd getting a bill for tip only!

My guess -- and we are all guessing until January when someone reports back the specifics -- is that they'll handle the gratuity the same way they handle other non-DDP-covered items like alcohol now.

Currently, you get a check for the main meal covered by DDP, showing what you ordered and the prices. You provide your room key, and the server returns with a zero-balance receipt which also shows your DDP credit balances. If you ordered anything not covered by DDP, they bring a seperate check for the non-DDP items and you settle it however you see fit -- cash, room billing, or credit card.

If they process it as bicker described above, that would be a nice improvement for the guests, but I suspect they'll stick with the clunky system already in place.
