*Posted this under resorts, but no one knew for sure, just what they had heard and what they had done at non-Disney Hotels. Since this is a Budget-type question, I tought I would try my luck here :) Thank you!*

So, it may seem silly to ask this, but looking to see if anyone else had done this and if there were any problems.

Plan:
Depart on the 10th Check in to random hotel for the one night
Disney Cruise 11th to 14th
Disney World 14th to 20th, on site hotel
Go Home on the 20th.

So, I have been trying to book land & sea, but cannot add dining to that, so it looks like 2 seperate reservations no matter what. I am OK with that. But here is my current question.

I found a GREAT package deal on Air Canada Vacations that was Room, Dining and Flights for only $500 more than booking the room and dinig by itself. WOW!! And, since we are in Canada, it is flights that are our problem - KWIM? They are so expensive.

Now, to get this deal, I need to book the room for the entire stay. OK, fine.

So the plan would then be:

Nov 10 arrive and Check into Disney Hotel
Nov 11 Leave Disney Hotel vacant for 3 days, but do not check out
Nov 14 return to Disney Hotel

What does everyone think of this? Can I leave my room vacant for 3 days? Would Disney even care? Has anyone else done this??

Thank you

we left overnight, and just let the front know. i don't know that we needed to, but it made me feel better to do so.

I would sontact a Travel Agent and see if they can give you a split stay or something, so you could use those extra days AFTER your cruise. Sometimes they will allow that especially is you're not traveling at peak times

As long as you're paying your bill, and have all your things in the room, I don't know why any hotel would care (or even know really) whether you were acutally staying there or not.

If you're concerned about housekeeping or whomever being in there while you're away, you could put up the Do Not Disturb sign.

As I said, the "deal" is if the hotel is booked for the length of stay.

Thank you though :)

Anyone done this? Like Indiana Rose Lee, I would let them know, but I am concerned that our room would be considered abandoned.

Honestly I wouldn't sweat it. I would let the front desk know and hopefully they'd make a note but you're paying for the room so IMO it's yours for those days.

I've done it before - staying at a Marriott in the UK. Flew to Indianapolis for the weekend, then back again. I was gone 3 nights - just let the front desk know what I was doing and they said no problem. If you don't want housekeeping to come in while you're gone, just leave the do not disturb on the door (I did this, too) and they'll leave it untouched while you're gone.

This can be done. And, as others have said, make sure that you let the Resort Front Desk be aware of what you are doing.

Do not attempt this by telephone, you will find that the number for the Resort on the confirmation actually rings at the Main Switchboard Call Center. And I would suggest when you check in ask to speak to the "Front Office Manager" and be sure to get the person's name.

obviously CF has lots of experience at Disney...I only quoted this to let the OP know this is the best course of action.

I did something similar for a cruise last December. If I booked flight + hotel room, I got a better rate than flight alone. I was able to get the hotel reduced to 1 night saving me even more. I never even checked into the hotel! But if I had, I would have let them know that I was not leaving for the entire stay. Otherwise they could assume I had vacated the room.

i wouldn't see a problem with it. Just let them know. Is there any one that you personally know traveling the same dates that could use the room for those three days?? Maybe they could have a split stay, especially if you're booking at higher resort catagory. But i would only suggest this if you know/personaly trust them in your room. (if you add them to your room at check in they will not be on the dining plan, but will recieve a room key)

Yep. Used to work with a guy who'd fly in Monday, fly out Friday afternoon. But his hotel was just booked for three weeks straight so he only had to pack once.

So when booking the cruise then booking the hotel stay is mandatory with the three unoccupied nights in the middle?

The hotel should already expect this to happen and have some procedure in place. Such as just make a notation when the guest comes down to tell the desk clerk he is leaving for three nights.

Which dining plan are you doing?
Don't forget you'll have credits for your whole stay. If it's the regular plan you'll have extra credits to do a splurge -- so don't forget your ADRs.

When DH was traveling alot for work. He would book 2 or 3 weeks at a time and come home on the weekend and there was never a problem, he would just tell the front desk and hang the Do not disturb. I have friends that come to disney and stay on site and will go to the beach for a night or 2 and never had any problem. They book the package and it saves them money so they can afford to go to the beach.

I pretty sure they don't do bed checks. It actually wouldn't have even occurred to me to question it.

We did this a few years back. We booked POP for length of stay (free DDP) but wanted to check out Anna Marie and Sanibel Islands. We stayed 2 nights in Sarasota. I don't think we even told the front desk (probably should). We left the do not disturb sign out while we were gone.

I can't speak specifically for Disney, but at many hotels putting up the 'do not disturb' sign can actually cause more disruption, at least if you don't talk to the front desk. Many hotels have policies about calling the room if the DND sign remains on the door for x number of hours, essentially doing a well check. If no contact is made, then they can check the room. Every check I've had done to me has come right in the middle of the baby's nap, ostensibly to ask if we would like the room to be cleaned that day. I didn't have problems if I put the DND sign up after lunch, even if the room hadn't been cleaned - I mainly had problems if the sign had been up all morning.
