Anyone have a large leather sectional that they absolutely love and has held up for several years

I have been searching and searching and can’t find the right one.

Budget is always a concern but quality, look and comfort are more important. (Within reason)

I really like the look of the turner sectional from pottery barn but the reviews I’ve read online are pretty terrible. This set is at the very top end of the budget. I can’t bring my self to spend that kind of money when so many people said the quality just isn’t there.

I found a similar one on wafair for about have the cost of the pottery barn one.
It is much larger, the reviews look good but I hate that there is a stitch line in the middle of each cushion. The ottoman would have to be used as a coffee table but looks puffy. Would a tray for drinks, remotes ext.. even stay on the top of it?
We are so terrible at picking this type of stuff out. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a real leather sectional sofa from Ikea. Bought it in 2012. The dogs lay on, it's used for napping, watching TV and a lot of nights it's where one of us sleeps overnight as we fell asleep watching TV. It looks brand new still. It wasn't cheap back in 2010 but not crazy expensive either (around 2,500 on sale if I remember correctly). I know people give Ikea a bad time but I have furniture I bought there in Germany in 1993 that still looks and functions great. None of it is the super budget stuff but regular chairs, dressers, bookcases and all have held up well even after the Army dragged them around the world on moves. They are known for their cheap stuff but also carry nicer stuff too.

Don't by bonded leather. We did and it looked ok for a few years, but then started peeling. If I were going to go with leather again I would spend the extra money and get real leather.

I concur! My parents had so many issues with their sofa and the leather peeling off. Real leather is the way to go.

Our sectional is from Costco. Is top grain on the top, and back is vinyl but you can't tell. Power recliners. Was around $2000 on sale. Have had a year and no issues. They delivered pretty fast and set up.

They delivered pretty fast and set up. Ours was the same. It looked great for about 3-4 years and then the "leather" started slowly peeling off. We had a couch, two club chairs and two ottomans. I doubt that we'll do leather again since we moved and our new home is very dry in the winter (forced hot air), but if we did, I would only buy genuine leather.

Was shopping for new furniture at a LazyBoy store a couple of years ago and some of their leather sofas actually looked like used furniture............LOL. Asked the sales person what that was and apparently it is trendy now to sell used looking leather furniture. Thought it was an odd thing to sell and who wants to buy something that already looks old/used/worn? Told them I wasn't interested and just wanted regular fabrics. Not sure if that is still a thing.

Large pieces of furniture are hard to buy online. Most stores also have extensive choices of colors/fabrics you want to see in person. I would assume leather makes the furniture far more expensive then fabric so probably depends on your budget and what style you are looking for. Imitation leather basically looks like vinyl.

I also agree with this. Our bonded leather furniture is peeling in certain spots and it's only 3 years old.

Agree with this. We have a leather sofa/loveseat/huge ottoman. We also have two dogs who are destroying it. (and our carpet), they play rough, and their nails tear things up. The leather doesn't look the greatest, it's completely covered in scratch marks, but they have not even come close to putting any holes in it.

Just make sure you condition your leather sofa and try to keep it out of direct sunlight.

We have a cream-colored, full leather Roche Bobois sectional sofa. It is really well made. (And should be for what they cost! :faint: ) I am having the same problem that @elgerber is which is dog nails cause scratches. No tears or anything, just scratches. I wish I could fix it. But at any rate, if you can get your hands on one of those, they’re great. We lucked out and found ours in a thrift store. Grandparents in a wealthy area had it in their downstairs for their grandchildren but it was apparently never used, and practically in new condition. I had been looking for several years for one that would fit our odd space and we lucked out that this one fit the bill. (Got it for $1000 when the same one used on EBay was going for $8K+. 😳 ) You can still find some used on EBay. It would be hard to find better quality. Unless you prefer new, looking around in some consignment shops might yield you something you like. Good luck. I had practically given up on finding one we liked.

You want full grain, not top grain. Aniline is my personal preference (looks and feels like a baseball glove). I would recommend Bradington Young.

Restoration Hardware. Won’t be cheap.
I've looked at RH but always got bad vibes from their sales practices. They always want to add on sketchy fees and exorbitant delivery charges. Beautiful pieces, but I'm not sure I trust them as a company.

La-Z-Boy Trouper, we just got the chairs & they make a sofas, a loveseat & sectional with motorized feet, back and neck and come with a battery pack. You really need to find a showroom and sit in their stuff to decide for yourself, lots of options that fit differently with many price points. The motorized are $ but if you have any aches this brand's design helps get comfy and permits easy adjustments. Took a while and many visits to finally make a selection but I kept going back to the same model & it gets good reviews.

I've never been a fan of leather furniture. They do have a certain aesthetic appeal, but they're too high-maintenance, especially when you have three kids and a dog. And they're expensive.
We have a U-shaped polyester sectional that has been serving us for a few months now. We got it from this store with customizable couches. Polyester might not have the same prestige as leather, but it's incredibly practical, especially with our family. Very easy to clean.

My older sister is a fan of leather furniture; me not so much. She got a deal from a Bloomingdale’s furniture warehouse before it moved which required a few days of decision making by the two of us (Yeah, we are like that. No major decision is made w/o the other’s input. Our partners resigned themselves to living with “The Committee” 🤣). It was top grain leather through out and aniline dyed. Still sitting in her L/R 30 odd years later. Her dog wasn’t allowed to sit on the furniture but her children were 🙂.

I love our motorized La-z-boy chairs for comfort and quality and would totally get their sofas or sectionals, however, I would only get if what I wanted is what is in stock because they do not seem to have a firm handle on ETA. Covid shut down was a few years ago, suppliers need to snap to it now.

What did you settle on, @Redart59, from a few years ago?
