We will be visiting Disneyland either on Wednesday or Thursday August 17 or 18th....and was just wondering what day would be the least crowded. I know the crowds are a little higher due to the 50th celebration....but I would think the weekends would be heavier.

Thanks in advance!

Just back, we went Wednesday the 20th of July and Wednesday the 27th. The 20th was the week after July 17th and it was a zoo. We did DCA most of the day and that was fine but DL was a nightmare. A week later we spent the entire day (open to close) in DL and we managed to ride every big ride (or hold a FP for it by about 2pm). We did not try to do Fantasyland but by 10pm the lines were down in there. The trick is to collect FP's as quickly as possible and to save them for later in the day (You can always use a FP after the return time has started we used ours hours later).

The crowd on the 20th was as bad or worse than anything I have ever seen at DL. I grew up down the street and have been there on July 4th, Christmas day, Thanksgiving week... this was worse because the crowd got there earlier than normal and it stayed bad all the way to park close. The 27th was not as bad but again the crowd was much thicker than we are used to by 10am (open to 10 was still pretty good, but it used to be noon before it got really bad) and there was very little thining of the crowds at night.

I do not go to DL in July/Aug very often, but I was there two years ago on July 8th and the crowd was nothing like this.

Oh, forgot to say- Wednesday has always been our guess for a lower crowd level with Thursday being my next pick but this summer is not like most summers so I think it is partly luck.

We had a great time but we did skip a few minor attractions we would have liked to do. The trick is to gather FP's as quickly as possible (check the bottom of the ticket to see when you can get your next set) getting Space Mountian and Splash Mountian as early as possible in the day (take the train from Tomorrowland to Adventureland) but to NOT waste time using them as long as non FP lines are low, save them for the early afternoon when all lines are long. We always have Dad go get them while we wait in line for something- he almost always makes it back in time to join us in line :)

Thank you so much for the detailed report! We were either thinking of Wed. or Thur. We will stick with wednesday and we will be there when the park opens. We already have our tickets so we don't have to wait in line to purchase them. So that will give us a little head start on the lines. :) :cool1:

Thanks again for all the help!
