Learned my lesson about human nature today! vent

So you're mad at this woman for being frugal enough to save 20% for a DP on a home and by doing so she had decided to start making coffee at home instaed of contributing $2 to your coffee supplies? :confused3
That is a valid way of looking at it..sure..good for her to be frugal and save the 20%. But..then the right thing to have done would be to thank the OP for trying to have a communal coffee station and explain that her budget was so tight she wouldn't be able to contribute..and then not drink the coffee. But really..I don't care how frugal you are, pitching in for coffee at work is going to cost about the same as bringing coffee from home.

that is one thing I do not miss about my old job. I had so many people like that -- we'd all agree to chip in $4 or $5 for something we wanted to get and then two, maybe three people would ever pay for it. Sad really but it's just how some people are.

At my place also..and the non payers were the higher earners :confused3

OP, it stinks when you try to create community by initiating something friendly and people cannot appreciate and reciprocate!...My DD10 has had the misfortune to experience this kind of maltreatment already!

I think your intentions were great, and intelligent ($$)!...Maybe you can telecommute, so you can be with like minded people who ARE thoughtful!!:goodvibes

Don't change your spirit!...SOMEBODY has to have faith!:cheer2:

Sorry OP, I've been in the same position. I think some people are givers while some are takers.

Intentional selfish? Maybe they just don't know any better.

I've found that there also ends up being this certain level of expectation once you start being generous. People accustomed to hand outs also tend to show some resentment when the giving stops.

Trying to find that balance between generosity and being taking advantage of IS difficult.

(((hugs))):grouphug:

I work at a church and we are very generous with helping members of the community with funds..BUT..the amount of leechers and takers who just make the rounds for hand outs and then EXPECT it and get down right nasty when you can't help is staggering. These people live for taking and never giving..much bigger scale than this, but anyway.....drives me nuts.

We used to have an employee who NEVER chipped in for anything but was a constant taker. We used to all rotate bringing in pretzels every once and a while. One day this employee forgot his lunch and proceeded to eat the ENTIRE bag of pretzels someone else had just brought in. We asked him for $2 to replace the bag & he said he didn't have it, sorry..... Needless to say we stopped doing this until he quit! We now have plenty of snacks and drinks for everyone in my office
