Leakycon and crowds...questions

So we will be at US and IOA the week of leakycon...not even sure what this is other than crowds are supposed to be awful. From what I understand it's from July 13-17...Do you think the crowds will be crazy before the 13th????

We're planning to do US and IOA the 11th and 12th.

You're talking the dead of the summer. It's going to be nuts. LeakyCon is a convention of Harry Potter fans, and during those days you can almost be certain to forget getting into Harry Potter.
But mind you the dates you'll go will be normal summer busy, and you'll have that at every park you visit this year...including disney

We stayed last year at RPR when the HP convention was on as well. The HP fans where at the convention most of the time during the day, as they had lots going on, and most i talked went to see WWHP but did not queue for the ride, they had the area to themselves from 10pm and where still in the park after 1 am, so it never seemed anymore crowded than previous years.

Over 2000 people registered so far. It's being held at the Royal Pacific Resort. There probably will be a private event at WWOHP at IOA on the evening of Wednesday 07/13 but the schedule isn't set in stone yet.

Many will be going to the midnight showing at the City Walk movie theater when the final Harry Potter film opens. I think that will be Thursday evening 07/14.

My guess is that not all of the Leaky people will be there on the 11th and 12th, because they will be there from the 13th through 17th. Some people might stretch their vacation longer than the Leaky dates, but I don't think they all will. The on-site hotels are expensive for people who didn't get either the Stay More Save More discount or the Leaky discount. I don't think there have been AP discounts for the Leaky dates. So at $269 + per night, I'm not sure people will be adding on extra nights.

You should be ok the 11th and 12th crowd wise in comparison to the rest of the week but the WWoHP will be very crowed regardless due to it being July.

Leaky Con will bring in insane crowds from the 13th-17th though as there are over 2,000 fans coming and you can pick and choose which convention events you want to attend. Personally I'm not into Wizard Rock so I will be at the parks during the concerts and that will be the case with many people during different events. As a PP mentioned there will be a private event held in the WWoHP for convention guests after park closing one night and there will no doubt be a 2,000+ person invasion at the City Walk theater at midnight on July 15th. Leaky Con is the biggest Potter convention to happen so far that I can remember, much bigger than last's year Infinitus convention was. However, although there are some fans coming in on the 12th, I'd assume that will probably be travel/arrival day more than be at the park at rope drop day.

I'm going to LeakyCon this year, and I went to Infinitus last year, and TBH I think that the majority of people attending will be staying around the con during the days it's on. I'm sure the WWoHP (and Disney) will be fairly packed around that time, but I think that'll just be the July crowds really, I wouldn't worry about the convention causing massive blockages or anything Although I maybe wouldn't plan a WWoHP trip on the days either side of the con

I would think the 11th would be a good time to hit WWoHP before all the convention peeps start rolling in. I think the 12th will be busy as many convention people will coming in that day and there only special events scheduled so no main events.

I was there last year after opening weekend and managed and so will you.

We will be there from July 19th through the 26th, and I am wondering if I should wait until later in our trip to attempt WWOHP. I *know* it will be busy regardless, just trying to determine when I have the best chance of it being least crazy.

Most posts I've seen on Leakycon's page/board are that people are staying 12-18. There may be people staying longer but that seems like a reasonable time frame.

You should be fine after the 18th. Of course it will still be crazy crowded as it is summer, but most, if not all of us convention guests should be cleared out before the 19th.
