Leakproof Food storage?

Hey guys!!! We are leaving in a few weeks. I have seen lots of threads about waterbottles, but was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a food storage container that won't leak in a backpack. I almost always have leftovers at restaurants and feel I'd like to box them up in something sturdy.

Thanks! :)

I have the Rubbermaid Take alongs with the screw-on lids for my kids' lunch, and they don't leak. I'd still put the containers inside a gallon ziplock bag to make sure they don't leak in your backpack though!

Have you actually tried to take leftovers from a WDW restaurant? I'm not saying you can't do it, but it's a PITB to carry your leftovers around with you. In addition, you're walking around in warm weather with unrefrigerated food. That's a recipe for a gastroenteritis disaster.

Actually this is my first time going as an adult :) I'm planning on bringing a backpack anyway, and I don't plan on bringing extraneous things like ponchos. I appreciate the concern though- I'd throw something out if it smelled "off" !

It doesn't have to smell "off" to be dangerous.

It’s important to handle all takeout food safely. Mishandling any of them could make you sick! The first and most important thing to consider is time. How long will it be until you can get that food home and safely refrigerated, or reheated and eaten? Remember, the safe time limit for cooked food without refrigeration is only 2 hours. And if the air temperature around the food is above 90° F, then the safe time is only 1 hour. That has to include the time since the food arrived at your table if you're at a sit‐down restaurant, or when they handed you the bag at the Chinese take‐out. So if you have plans for anything else between getting the food and going home, it's risky. Get the food last! Otherwise, leave leftovers behind. Even feeding them to your doggie could be unsafe. If you do plan on getting take out foods or bringing leftovers home, go prepared. Unless you're positive you'll be home within an hour, take enough coolers or insulated bags for all of it. Bring some frozen ice blocks in the bag or have crushed ice in the cooler for cold items, especially here in Florida’s hot summers. Cold foods need to stay below 40° F. But if you can get the food cold fast, and keep it cold, you'll be in good shape.

If you insist on carrying around your leftovers, at least rig up something where you can add ice to keep them cold.

I do know that information, I just personally have never been that cautious. I was just trying to respond with some levity :) Thanks tho! Who knows maybe all the walking will make this a moot point!

You are allowed soft sided coolers so if you want to bring one that fits in your backpack you could. I would bring 2 zip lock baggies for ice to keep in the cooler w/ your food. You can get free ice (and free ice water) at any counter service location for free.
