You get what you pay for. You can probably get enameled cast iron somewhere else, but it won't be as good. All my pots are Le crueset (I'm waiting for the Euro to go down so I can add french copper pots, lol), and I love them.

I don't know about cheaper options, but I have a Le Cruset and a Staub and they are fabulous. I've been using them regularly for 8+ years and they hold up wonderfully! They're meant to last a long time, and from what I've seen they do.

They have outlets where you can save a bit on discontinued colors and things. Their website will have a list of locations. We often stop @ the one in South Carolina on our way to Disney. They also send out coupons in the mail for the outlets a few times a year. Only once though have I been able to time a coupon with a trip to Disney, but I then learned there is an outlet near me! I didn't realize previously that the outlets are all over.

Great cookware - it's really an investment for a lifetime.

Williams and Sonoma has a Le Creuset 3 1/2 qt oval Dutch Oven on sale right now for $129.95 (usually $280) that I have on the Xmas list that I gave to DH. I sure hope I get to open a box with one in it on Xmas day :

I also have a Staub (love) and a Martha Stewart (ehhh, food was great but outside started chipping - of course it was only about $55 at Macy's so what could I expect )

You can also check eBay, a few years ago I lucked out finding some Le Creuset au gratin dishes that a newlywed got for a wedding present and didn't want. Super price and I snapped those right up!

They are expensive. I've been adding like one piece every 5 or 6 months for a couple of years now. But I use my Dutch oven all the time and it still looks brand new. I just ordered a new skillet off of Amazon earlier this week. Someday I'll have a full cooking set I guess.

I had to have a Le Creuset tagine because of the chicken dish from Jiko that they used to do in a tagine. I found it at the North Carolina outlet on a Disney trip. I paid around $100 for it in a discontinued color, % of sale. Every so often I have to dust it. Used it maybe once or twice

If you are looking for the oval (wide), Macy's often has it on sale and you can use a promo code on it. I recently got one for $75 because it applied 2 promo codes. That was a glitch and I expected it to be cancelled but they ended up shipping it.

I know the 5 1/2 quart round at the outlet is $224 so with the 20% off not too bad. I don't know what the next promo is, last month it was 30% off specific colors, maybe in November they will do another one with different colors.
Also, OP check Homegoods, TJMaxx and Marshall's. They have Le Creuset pieces for less than retail.

Cooks Illustrated reviewed several Dutch ovens and they actually recommended a brand that is sold at WalMart (Tramontina) as their best buy, as well as Le Creuset as their best heavier choice.

I went with the Tramontina, which sells for 1/4th the cost of the Le Creuset. It suits my needs and I have no complaints. Both the Le Creuset and the Tramontina were rated 3 stars by the CI reviewers.

I use my tagine at least once a week. I love it. I will put carrots, peppers, and celery in the bottom, and put a beef filet on top and load it up with spices and cook it all day, and then make couscous on the side. It's delicious!

I have many pieces of LeCreuset and some Staub (bought it on QVC years ago).

Costco has a Le Creuset 7.5 quart oval oven they are selling for $189 (not sure) and they have a Kirkland round oven for $69 (I think). The Kirkland is made in France so it must come out of the Le Creuset or Staub factory.

DO NOT BUY ANY Martha Stewart or Rachal Ray crap. They are made in China so enough said.

I found my first Le Creuset dutch oven in Marshalls for less than 1/2 the price of retail, and my second one at an outlet store in Maine. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these dutch ovens and even after almost 10 years with my first, it still looks good, and cooks great! I am now on the lookout for a braiser and actually found one at Marshalls just recently, but it was a pukey shade of mustardy yellow/green and I just couldn't stomach the color!! Heading up the outlet soon, so I'll check there as well.

IMHO, I second the "you get what you pay for" sentiment on these. I never thought I'd pay so much for a piece of cookware, but they have been worth every penny.

My Homegoods often has Le Creuset stuff around the holidays starting with Thanksgiving.

I find them very heavy so I bought this one from Kohls. It's amazing and works just as well as my Le Creuset one but is at least 5-7lbs lighter which is nice when it's full of food.

I am looking to buy another 5 or 7 quart dutch oven and have been looking at the Tramontina one from Walmart because of the America's test Kitchen high rating it got. And can't beat the under $50 price tag.

Yeah, this is really an item where you want a good sale rather than an off brand. Deals are definitely out there, but a knock off brand won't get you what you're looking for.
