Le Cellier worth paying OOP for?

Hi all!

We're planning on eating dinner at Le Cellier (if we can get a ressie of course) but now I'm second guessing it. We figured the dining plan wouldn't be a value for us this year because we really only want one big meal a day and snacks along the way. So my question is, would you still think Le Cellier is as great as it is, even if you had to pay out of pocket? Is it still worth it?

TIA :)

I would still pay for it OOP because I think the food it very good. Depends on what my budget would be I guess.

We have done both DDP and OOP for LeCellier, and it's always worth it. I would suggest a late lunch there, as the menu is similar and the prices a little less expensive.

Don't shoot me.... but I say no. We just ate there for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and it was just OK to us. Our meal at Kona, on the other hand, was wonderful and I would pay out of pocket for it anytime. My steak at Le cellier was just OK and they gave me like two small spoonfuls of mashed potatoes. My DD's steak had fat all in it, and my DH didn't care to much for his steak either and he thought the whole thing was way over rated. It's also packed in there and we felt kind of rushed too. Our service was so so. It could just be me, but it's not a must do for us at all. I left disappointed in the whole thing.

Same as PP - it's not a must do for us anymore as it used to be in the past. I think the quality of the food has gone downhill and it's really crowded in there now and rushed. The last time I ate there we did lunch and it was "fine."

I think it is worth paying out of pocket. Like someone else said it is a matter if opinion. But for my family we would pay OOP. We just went in September and it was awesome we had the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet We always love it. Yes it is Crowded but its a Disney park what place isnt? They have many tables to seat as many people as they can. Just be happy if you can get a reservation. Good Luck!!

We, too, would pay OOP. I love the Mushroom Filet. I wasn't going to even try to get an ADR this year because we wanted to try new places but ended up making one for lunch as we've never tried lunch. Probably won't get the filet but will definitely get a side of that yummy risotto!

We have eaten there probably 5 times and it has always been very good.

We've done LeCellier on the dining plan four times and this past trip (last month) we were not on the dining plan as it was a last minute, mini-trip, and we paid out of pocket for LeCellier. For the fifth time, it was our favorite meal of the trip. The service was outstanding, the food excellent. Definitely worth OPP in our opinion.

We've never been there before, so I think we're going to give it a try! I want to see what all the hype is about!!

If you can't get it, go to Yachtsman. You'll pay a little more, but the food will be better.

Le Cellier used to be a great value OOP. Now its a good value on the dining plan, but its a really expensive steak for the quality of the meal. You can pay just a little more at Yachtman and get a better meal.

I have to agree with this.

Frankly, if I want steak on my next trip, and don't want to go "high end," I will probably go to the Outback at the Crossroads Shopping Center at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd. I don't think Le Cellier is that much better, but it's about twice the cost. Plus you're practically sitting on top of the people at the table next to you.

I do love that soup though. But it's just not worth the hassle trying to get in there for a small cup of soup.

Sometimes hype is just hype. But to resolve cognitive dissonance, sometimes people convince themselves it was the best experience ever!

Sorry you didn't enjoy your dinner at LeCellier...but as I said earlier, we've had some terrific filets there and have always enjoyed. And, in case you did not know it, you can order soup and the bread to go. While we were waiting for our table two weeks ago, two different couples came in and ordered soup and bread to go. :)

I would say it is worth paying oop. The pretzel bread is so delicious I still have visions of it. There are other things on the menu aside from steak including an amazing mushroom ravioli I had the last time. You should definitely snag a ressie if you can get one imho :)

Sorry you didn't enjoy your dinner at LeCellier...

I never said I didn't enjoy it. I actually did on the numerous occasions I was there (all pre-DDP). I enjoy my dinners at Outback too. Always had a good steak and good service for what it is.

I just don't think Le Cellier is worth the price. And certainly not up to the hype it receives here.

As I've said before, I think a lot of the hype is due to:
  • It is good for a theme park restaurant (but so are many others at WDW, especially in Epcot)
  • It has high menu prices for a 1 TS credit restaurant so people on the DDP think they're getting some incredible "value" by getting an ADR here
  • It is "meat and potatoes" - how many "picky" eaters (and those who travel with them) post here looking for somewhere
    to go?

I'm glad you love it. But if someone asks my opinion I give it. It may differ from yours, but that's the way things go.

I guess I misunderstood...I assumed you did not enujoy it. I was in no way trying to say your opinion did not count and was not saying my opinion was better than yours. Personally, I've eaten at some "great" steakhouses in Chicago, and my dinners at LeCellier have been ten times better than the overpriced steakhouses in Chicago. And LeCellier has been the best meal "we" have had at Epcot of all of the restaurants we have eaten at there.

My main reason for responding to you was to let you know you could get the soup and bread to go in case you were unaware.

That is sweet of you. I had read that it is sometimes a possibility if they aren't busy. I may ask next time.

One December trip they had a kiosk outside selling the soup in a bread bowl. I would love for that to come back!

We ate there in May and I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I was going to leave it off of the ressies for December but it is DS birthday and he liked the burger so I have to take him again. We spent $60 OOP including tip and all I had was soup, a diet coke, and creme brulee. I am trying to talk DS into Teppan Edo instead. Already have my ADR just in case he gives in :lmao:

I never buy the dining plan, so if I go to Le Cellier or any other TS restaurant, it's always OOP. I usually go to Le Cellier for lunch, and actually, I try to get a ressie for right when they open. It seems less hectic then, so I have more time to enjoy the meal. Le Cellier is the only ADR I have for my 10 day December trip.

I would agree that Yachtsman is the better steakhouse though. I had the best steak I've ever eaten in my life at Yachtsman. It's a little pricey, so I don't get there as often as I'd like, but it's fantastic and just a quick walk out of Epcot.

I would (and have in the past) gladly pay OOP to eat at LeCellier. The dining plan doesn't seem like a great value to us...last trip we went without it just to see how much we'd spend, and we spent the same amount or maybe even a little less than the plan would've cost when you figure that we would've paid for alcohol and tips either way.

LeCellier was without a doubt our favorite meal of the trip. The filet, the soup, the bread, the chicken sausage, the chocolate 'moose'...we loved everything. It was the most expensive single meal of our trip, but Kona was only $20 less, and the only things we really liked there were the sticky wings and our drinks :rotfl:, plus the service wasn't nearly as good.

An easy way, like others have mentioned, to up the bang for your buck while paying OOP, is to eat your big meal at lunch. This is a good tip for LC and any restaurants in general. The filet at LC for example is $26 at lunch and $35 at dinner...that alone would've made up the price difference between LC and Kona if we'd gone at lunch.

We liked our meal at LC, but definitely not to the extent we thought we would. Our group all agreed that we thought we've had better steaks at Outback and Texas Roadhouse. I had the mushroom filet, and really wish I had subbed something for the risotto, as I'm guessing I would have really enjoyed the mashed potatoes they have there. Guess I always see them making that (risotto) on Hells Kitchen and Food Network, and I obviously don't "get it", as I didn't enjoy that whatsoever.

Probably for myself, had the servings been larger, and I had ordered the potatoes, I likely would have had a better experience, as myself and my DFIL both left a bit hungry.

That all said, I am glad we tried it, and can see why others enjoy it, just not something we're likely to do again with all of the WS choices available. For us it didn't seem like anything "special/unique", something we could just get at home.
