The issue has been raised before, and the responses indicated that the portion sizes were substantial. However, as many like to point out, WDW is not immune to abusing the shrink ray. Therefore, I ask the question again - especially of folks that have been there in the last month or so.

How are the portion sizes at LC for dinner? Can a normal couple enjoy splitting:
  • a bowl of soup
  • steak (coffee rubbed strip or mushroom fillet) with the mashed or risotto
  • side of poutine (I keep seeing different reports about improvements in authenticity) or mashed
  • dessert
without going somewhere afterward to get a counter meal? If they would still be hungry, how much more would be required to stave off hunger? If the answer is "not much," maybe 8:30/8:45 dessert at soft-open La Hacienda or a snack from F/W would resolve that.

Frankly I didn't think my dinner was big enough to split with my husband.

I would be hungry if I had only a half bowl of soup, half a steak and 3 or 4 bites of mashed potatoes.

No, I say if you are going to go get your own meal. JMO

I ate there about 6 weeks ago. I had the mushroom filet. While it was outstanding, It was pretty small. The only reason I didn't mind was becasue I had a bowl of the cheese soup (and pretzel bread, of course!) and wanted room for the maple brulee. IMO, a normal couple sharing one bowl of soup and the filet plus one dessert will walk out still hungry, unless you eat a ton of bread - which would be understandable, as it's that good.

    . . . no
  • steak (coffee rubbed strip or mushroom fillet) with the mashed or risotto
. . . if both have small appetites
  • side of poutine (I keep seeing different reports about improvements in authenticity) or mashed
    . . . no
  • dessert
. . . if each only want 1-3 bites, or so

1) The meals are not designed to be split.
2) Although small appetites (like seniors who eat very little) might get away with it.
3) The wife and I frequently split entrées, but not soups and seldom desserts.
4) You would be best served to order two meals.

If you were just splitting an entree, I'd say no, but since you're planning on splitting appetizer, entree, a side dish, and dessert I think it would be enough for two people.

Thanks for the advice.

I was operating under the assumption that the food at LC was portioned in a manner similar to your average chain "theme" restaurant. Granted, it's been a while since we've been to one of those, so I don't know if the ray has hit them too. When we went, we'd usually order an appetizer and entree and share them, and that was more than enough for us. Of course, if the taste is superlative, we may not be in the mood to share.

I'm surprised to hear that the bowl of soup is so small - I can't even imagine how tiny the cup must be. This is our only planned a la carte, and I'm worried about dealing with leftovers since we have an early meal (4:50) and are probably going to stick around through Illuminations. I want to order two whole meals (especially since the food is supposed to be that good, but the thought of leaving food behind is disappointing.

The soup is only served in one size: cups, not bowls. You can't get a larger size and split. It's meant for one person.

?

Is that something new? Allears, WDWInfo, and disneyfoodblog all indicate a cup for $5.49 and bowl for 6.99. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all out of date since the first two appear to rely on end users and even though the latter links to the disney domain, I can't find it on the Disney Dining site itself.

Nope, that's not true. They do come in a cup size and a bowl size. (And the kids size is even smaller.) The cup size is the size a tea cup and the bowl is a decent serving. If it's split, I would guess the two would measure the size of two hot tea cups (at your local Chinese restraurant). I just returned this week and ate at LeCellier THREE times last week. I got the cup of soup once, but I normally get the bowl. I got the soup during lunch since the portions are smaller at lunch time.

OP: I'm not a big eater at all, but I have no problem eating the mushroom filet all by myself (whether it's the smaller version at lunch or the dinner size). There is no way we could split that entree. However, if you ordered the chicken ceasar salad, that would be split-able because that was way too much salad for me.

we've gotten both the cup of cheese soup and the bowl of soup...the bowl was definitely share-able size. We usually share a cup if there's just two of us (use it for "dip" for the bread sticks...yummy) or a bowl if we have 3 or more people at the table.

However, the entrees were small, IMO. As others have said, if you have small appetites you may be OK splitting. Especially if you're willing to grab a snack later if necessary.

We're pretty good eaters, and have split a bowl of the soup. It's pretty filling, esp. with the pretzel bread :cloud9:, and the CMs have no problem bringing out a bowl and two spoons.

As fas as sides, an ordered side of mashed could be split as it's an OK size but not large. I suppose the other sides could be split too but I've never ordered them.

For entrees I wouldn't split, they are not huge. Don't forget when looking at pics that other than the fillet, the NY strip or prime rib will have some fat to cut off. The fish portions are small to average. The rice or mashed or other included side on the entree plate is a small portion.

Dessert, well, you could split if one of you only wanted a bite or two.

I think you are fine splitting app, side, and dessert but for the entree it's pretty questionable. The servings are not as large as a chain steakhouse. The NY strip looks large in pictures but it's cut pretty thin and mine always has lots of inedible fat and gristle (quality isn't great on the meats). The filets are small but better quality. In terms of calories I think splitting the whole meal would be right but without much protein to fill you up eating mostly soup, fries, bread, and sugar I think you might be hungry later for something more substantial than another dessert.

The portion sized seem Ok to me.

We shared a bowl of soup. Entree each -mushroon filet too small to share imo. Both had dessert.

IMHO, the portions aren't big enought to split but with 3 or 4 orders of the fabulous bread sticks you should be okay.:rotfl2:

It really depends on how much food you are used to consuming. If you typically would go into a restaurant and order an app, entree and dessert, then the portion sizes would not be large enough to share. Personally, I either order an app or side and dessert, or an entree, because to eat all three together is way too much food for me.

In your place, I would probably order a couple apps, then split the entree and split dessert. I think that would be the best compromise, both in food quantity and cost. I love the sausage and polenta app and the cheese soup for apps. The mac and cheese is a good side, if you're looking for something interesting. It's a very mild cheese and is baked with bread crumbs on top.
