Le Cellier news

Apparently AAA rated it as a 5* according to a number of CM's and not just CM's working the CDN pavilion either this was from some Brits and some Yanks. They all commented because V&A is apparently no longer a 5*.

Again I'm not knocking Le Cellier as I have had many good experiences there but I did a little research and as of AAA's most recent list, October 2006. There are only 58 restaurants in all the US that have received their 5 diamond rating. V&A's is still on that list Le Cellier is not. So the CMs are just exagerating a bit I guess :) Happens all the time.

Have you done a Dining report? I would love to hear what happened!

Here's the abbreviated version from my DVC trip report

The Ugly-Our Le Cellier experience for CP. We are all huge fans of Le Cellier. DH and I are alumni of the International Program as are my sister and BIL who were servers in Le Cellier. My sister's manager still works there and they have stayed in touch over the last 3 years.

We had a 5:40 ADR for the 8:15 CP show. Now I knew a group of 12 would take a little longer than normal but we were seated at 6 and did not receive our entrees until 7:20!!! We needed to leave by 7:30-7:40 to head to the America Gardens and get in line for the CP. Also our server was almost non existant after the apps arrived. We all had to wolf down our entrees and took our desserts to go. We have always had great service at this restaurant and were beyond disapointed. DH went back after the CP and talked to the manager and we were refunded all 12 dining credits. I cannot stress enough how important it is to talk to a manager ASAP when there is a problem. They cannot do anything after the fact. We will definitely go back to Le Cellier as I considered this an anomoly.

It is very filling. We had it for an appetizer and only finished half of it so we could eat our meal! It has beer in it, bacon and cheese. It is too strong in my taste to just eat, it is more like a bread dip to me!!

Mmm... It sounds yummy. Very rich, but yummy. It also sounds like it might make a good lunch with some extra bread for dipping.

Disneygirl, I'm glad to hear that the manager refunded your dining credits due to the less than stellar meal you experienced. Anomalies are what they are, anomalies, one-time events. It is the speed and quality of response (action) received when the problem is noted that makes the difference. Hopefully your next experience at Le Cellier will be the kind of wonderful event that helps to make your Disney trip all the more memorable!

Absolutely service recovery makes a huge difference. However the server should have alerted her manager ASAP that our order was taking so long as she knew we were on the package and had to make the show. But when is all is said and done it was taken care of.

Sorry to hear of the less than stellar service but I guess anyone can have a bad day, even in Disney!! However, we absolutely loved their food/service & are planning on eating there on our first day back to DW...whenever that might be!! :cool1:

I don't think it has anything to do with jealousy as being realistic.

I was joking, hence the smileys. Sorry, I didn't realize that I needed to clarify that.

On a serious note, I'm sure Le Cellier is considered a 5 * to many CM's and guests. However, in regards to Le Cellier being a genuine AAA 5 * rating - as long it's a part of Disney's dining plan - that will never, EVER happen. The dining plan is slowly ruining the originality and quality of the better Disney restaurants.

Hummm...do I sense a tad bit of jealousy from our neighbours to the south who don't have such a wonderful restaurant to represent THEIR country? :rotfl:

I mean our cheddar cheese soup, P.E.I mussels and Herb Crusted Prime Rib pale in comparison to their "Would you like some fries with that?" fine establishment. :lmao:

We have plenty of wonderful restaurants that represent the US at WDW, including Artists Point, the California Grill, Citrico's, the Yachtsmans Steakhouse, and many more. There is no jealousy from me. Actually I've travelled more through Canada than the average Canadian has travelled through the States, and frankly have overall had better meals in the States. Although NOTHING can compare to a chocolate snowflake donut from Tim's.

Back to the point, Le Cellier isn't a five star restaurant in terms of food or service, and will never be. Anyone who thinks it is obviously doesn't get out much, in any developed nation.

V&A's did slip to a 4*, but Le Cellier doesn't rank with five. My guess is two at most. Trying to get into AAA online right now to check.

ETA--I had thought that V&A's had slipped to a four*, I stand corrected by a previous post. Maybe it was Mobil that the rating slipped in...

You can check my link above. As of the Oct 2006 list V&A's was still a 5*. I couldn't find a more updated list.

Then why the 'cop out' at the American Adventure? It's sad really. As for Artist Point, I find it amusing that they offer Canadian Ice Wine with dessert.

Actually I've travelled more through Canada than the average Canadian has travelled through the States, and frankly have overall had better meals in the States.

And I have travelled more through the United States than the average American has travelled through Canada and I completely beg to differ.

Although NOTHING can compare to a chocolate snowflake donut from Tim's.

Surely you jest.

I don't know why they don't offer a more varied menu at the US Pavilion. I agree that they should. But I don't think that Canadians should act like snobs about it. At one point LeCellier was like a school cafeteria--with food to match. They don't make ice wine in the US. And the stuff is pretty vile anyhow IMHO.

Your perrogative.

I love those donuts. Not sure why there would be a problem with that.

I missed the part where Canadians acted like snobs about it??? Le Cellier was rated the number 1 restaurant in Epcot by Disney guests, I don't think there is anything wrong with being proud of that stat.

Obviously, you've never had the 'good stuff' then. ;)

There is no problem. I just find it amusing that something so simple and mass produced can be so desired is all. Guess they really should put a Timmy's in the Epcot pavilion afterall...ROTFLMBO...

And I'll not deny that it is one of the three best in Epcot--Bistro and Chefs are equally good, and frankly service at Bistro is far better on a consitant basis. In fact my only complaint about Le Cellier over the years has been some spotty service.

Obviously, you've never had the 'good stuff' then. ;)

Actually I have. It's Quail's Gate Family Reserve Chardonnay, not available in the US due to BC export laws. I had ice wine for the first time on NYE in Winnipeg in 2003, and didn't care for it--at all. I was Innskillen in case you care, brought by a friend from New Market who was at teh same party.

I've long lobbied for a Tim's in Epcot. And until you do'nt ahve something, you do'nt realize how much you really liked it.

Well I was just going off what was being said by the CM's I spoke with and passing on the news.

Thank you! FINALLY I've found someone who agrees with me on Chefs. In my opinion, the service there is impeccable, as the only server ever in WDW who offered to cut my mother's meat for her (she's visually impaired) was at Chefs. Two thumbs way, WAY up for that one.

Anne - note the smiley - I was joking. I love Ice Wine, but I completely understand why people hate the stuff.

Sorry, that would never sit well with me. I just don't like the idea of a 'chain' restaurant/location as part of Epcot. To me, it would take away from the point of World Showcase. Next there will be a Dunkin Donuts or a Mickey D's in the American Adventure.

There already is McDs at the refreshment port beside Canada but you could argue that's not really part of the World Showcase. :)
