Le Cellier - Mushroom Fillet - Tell me about it?

What is it that makes the mushroom fillet so wonderful? I ask because I truly hate mushrooms but *once in a blue moon* I can handle them if leaving them off will change the entire entree.

So...the question is: Can the mushrooms be left off of that mushroom fillet without ruining the whole thing? And, if I leave them on there, am I going to hate it because I really can't stand the flavor of mushrooms?

Generally speaking, I have a rule that - at WDW - all entrees are ordered as the chef intends them to be prepared, but I really can't stand mushrooms. For this reason, I would normally bypass the mushroom fillet. But, in this instance, it seems to be the universally best-loved entree at this particular restaurant.

Some guidance would be really appreciated.

I am going to post this, but I know that not a single person will have the same view!

I absolutely love Le Cellier. I like the atmosphere, the service, the cheese soup, the pretzel bread and the great memories of my husband and our boys enjoying it with me. But I do not love the filet. I tried it once because - well, you have to try it. But it was way too heavy for me. My husband orders the NY strip and I think that's fantastic.

I don't think the mushrooms are overpowering, and I don't think you miss anything by asking to leave them off (and I do like mushrooms.) So if you'd like to try it, I'd say go ahead and leave the mushrooms off! I don't think it has much impact on the flavor, but then you don't even have to think about mushrooms.

It tasted to me like Cream of Mushroom soup poured on top; very bland and tasteless. Their BBQ maple-glazed filet was outstanding though; figures they'd get rid of that one. I do have to say that the NY Strip is very tasty, so I'd go with that instead.

I hate mushrooms, I hate the texture, I hate the flavor. I went to Le Cellier and I had the mushroom filet, no mushrooms and I also switched out the mushroom risotto for cream cheese mashed potatoes. It was a little slice of heaven! The steak definitely stands on its own - it was cooked perfectly and was so tender. I'm going back to WDW in August and this is my one "must do". I'm going there just for the mushroom filet - I could take or leave some of the other items like the pretzel bread and cheese soup (although I did enjoy them) but it's really the filet that I love!:lovestruc

The filet is my favorite thing..........it is absolutly yummy :woohoo:
I go back every time we are in Disney just to have it

Everyones tastebuds are different so there will be different responses to your question but if you like Filet and mushrooms you should absolutly give it a try

This is one of my favorite meals at Disney. I don't think I can be objective though since I love mushrooms.

If you really hate musrooms that badly, I would also order something else. I like mushrooms, so I enjoy the fillet, but everything on the plate is flavored with mushrooms. The risotto and the sauce on top of the fillet still taste very much like mushrooms even without the mushrooms. Not sure if that makes sense:confused3 People order it with the mashed potatoes all the time...but it's not really the same, its a plain fillet on top of some mashed potatoes.

I do not like fungus in any form including mushrooms. But I always order the filet. The first time I had it I just got it as is. I simply brushed aside the mushrooms. The sauce was not overwhelming and did not ruin the meal at all. I enjoyed it as is and when I was done I just had a pile of mushrooms left on the plate. The next time we went I ordered it without the mushrooms and substituted the mashed potatoes. It was also fantastic, basically a plain filet with mashed potatoes. I would eat it either way, but I will always get the mashed potatoes wheather or not I get the mushrooms or not.
