Today we had our Le Cellier lunch!! I thought it was just OK. We both had the Canadian cheddar cheese soup as a starter. I enjoyed it, although thought it was a tad salty. My friend definitely thought it was salty. I really enjoyed the pretzel bread, especially dipping it in to the soup. For my entrée, I had the shaved prime rib sandwich. It was good but I kind of wish I had went all out and bought an actual steak. It just seems too weird to me to order something like that at lunch. My friend had the grilled steak salad. It was different than we were expecting. We both were expecting a salad with some steak on it. This was more like a steak dressed with some greens on a bed of potato and tomato. He didn't care for it at all. We both skipped dessert. Although I enjoyed it I would definitely prefer to go back for dinner. We both thought the atmosphere was nice. But based on lunch, I don't see what all the fuss is regarding Le Cellier.

I've had the "well-known" cheddar soup at the F&W festival, and while I thought it was very good, I've got to admit I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. Having said that, I took into consideration that it was prepped in outdoor carts, so I thought given the situation it was very good. If I remember correctly, the cup I had was very salty as well. :confused3

I have to say as a Canadian.....I have never in all my life had Cheddar Soup... I am not particiularily certain where this soup is regionally from but for certain it's not a west coast thing as I've yet to see it on a menu in my 30-some-odd years. I am heading out to Ontario in a couple weeks -- maybe it's an eastern thing and I'll see it out there? :confused3:confused3

I actually know the story of the le Cellier cheddar cheese soup!

Back when le Cellier was changing over from a buffet to a la carte, the management asked the cast if anyone had some unique recipes they could try out on the menu. A CM named Sandy brought in a soup recipe that used white cheddar and Labat beer (it had been her grandmothers).

Sandy later worked at the Polynesian, and last I heard was at Candy Cauldron at DTD.

We don't really get the hype of Le Cellier. We have been there 3 or 4 times, and it was always just "eh" for us. I don't really care for soup OR cheese, so you can imagine that the cheese soup is not my favorite! :rotfl2:

Hmm.... Labat's beer... not our finest export hahah

I really dislike that soup. :guilty: Not only is it like a salt lick, but it's sour... at least to me.

I'm a fan of Yachtsman's Steakhouse and Ricardo, thanks. :teeth:

Le Cellier is one of those places where the hype has grown bigger than the reality. :confused3

I agree 100%. Some restaurants deserve the hype and don't get it, but le Cellier isn't one of them :rolleyes1

Funny you should mention Yachtsman. That's where we had dinner tonight. Unfortunately, it wasn't an enjoyable dinner. My friend just really annoyed me tonight. It got off on the wrong foot because he was wearing a baseball cap and the hostess asked him to kindly remove it before entering the dining area. Not an out of the ordinary request, but for my friend it's enough to set him off and he gets all huffy. Then they seat us and it's a table right next to the door the servers go in and out of. He wasn't happy with the location so I told him to see if they'll move us. Of course he says no but then is pissy for the rest of the dinner. I knew with the mood he was in he'd find something wrong with his entrée. He said the scallops were salty. All this was enough to put me in a bad mood just b/c he's being such a ...you know what. I couldn't even enjoy my dinner or Ricardo. We just sat there in silence the entire meal. I would have liked to have ordered dessert but just wanted the meal to be done and over with. On our way out he asks the hostess if they have a comment card. I'm thinking to myself "Ponderosa has comment cards, at the Yachtsman you ask for a manager if you have a problem." Of course, she wants to get the manager but he doesn't want to bother. Afterall, what can the manager do when he never voiced any of his complaints. Sorry for the rant. I'm just glad he went to a friend's tonight so I can have a break from him. Normally it's not until tomorrow or Wednesday we start getting on each other's nerves LoL.

This is one of the reasons going to WDW alone seems more and more like a good idea to me. :rolleyes1

Having grown up on the East Coast (Quebec), I can say with relative certainty that it isn't.

I was once chatting with some Guests from Quebec and they brought the topic up. We sorta all agreed that it was probably something that those people on the other side of the Ottawa River did ;).

Lo and behold, I had some Ontarian Guests come up and later and ask if it the Cheese Soup was a Quebec dish .

I think it might be like Chinese food - it isn't so much Canadian as it is Canadianesque: thick, hearty and savoury.

Hmmm.... ok... even hearty and savoury isn't necessarily a west coast thing but I'll give you that one ;)

hahah then again 'what is canadian' anyways.... growing up i ate a lot of italian food as guess what i am italian, but now my meals are an italian, portugese, chinese warped mixture since marrying my husband with a splash of vietnamese as our closest friend is from vietnam and we are often all eating together ... believe me we have some odd dinners.

:lmao::lmao:

First of all, he wouldn't have gotten out of the hotel with the hat if he was with me. Second, I would have ripped his arm off and beat him with it for acting that way. He better behave or I will have to teach him some manners!

I am sorry your dinner experience wasn't good. We can't wait to go to Yachtsman on Tuesday.

Wow, you had dinner at YSH AND Ricardo for your server? Your friend was a twit to boot?

Yep. He'd have been out the door and I'd have had a peaceful dinner alone.

So, leave him in the room on Saturday or what? ;)

I hope your next dining experience is a great one.

You can never truly enjoy a restaurant when someone is in a bad mood.
And sometimes it is impossible to snap them into a better attitude.
Sometimes they just need to soak in the pool and cool off !

Hope you have more fun tomorrow.

Now I wish I was going to Gay Days again this year !

Yes, MM, this is a good reason why going alone can be a good idea (and why I'm kind of looking forward to the rest of the week without him). It all depends on personalities, and his just tends to wear on me over time.

But tonight we had a really nice dinner. We decided to try The Wave, at the Contemporary resort. Funny how not only was it the nicest, it was the cheapest. We split an appetizer of seared scallops and they were really good. He said they were better than his scallop entrée at Yachtsman. For dinner I had the chili-rubbed flat iron steak. I wasn't a huge fan of the avocado "mousse" that was drizzled over the top. Luckily the pieces of steak were piled up and most of the sauce was drizzled over the top so I just scraped it off a couple pieces. My friend had the pork tenderloin and enjoyed it. My only complaint would be with their dessert offerings. They do things as a trio. My problem is I would like one item in the first trio, an item in the second trio, and an item in the fourth trio. They need a "create-your-own" trio. So we skipped dessert.

The last time I was at the Contemporary The Wave had just opened. We walked in and there were only a couple people in there. My friend didn't seem overly excited about trying it, so we didn't. That's on my "going to try it next time" list. It sounds like a "you've gotta try it at least once just to say you tried it" types of places.

We are going to The Wave for the first time on this trip. I wanted a custom cake from the Contemporary and Cali Grill didn't have an ADR at the time I wanted. I have been reading good things about The Wave, so I hope we like it!

I really enjoyed it. I like the atmosphere. It's nice without being too nice. I like the conemporary look and feel. Funny thing is we were still pretty close to the service area but my friend didn't complain this time. He did text me at the table to point out the lady at the next table dining with her rain poncho still on. On the walk to MK afterwards we were cracking all sorts of jokes about it. I would definitely recommend it. Good drinks too. I had a Pina Colava and it reminded me of last year's stay at the Poly :D
