Layout of GVs

Many people seem to like the GVs. I've never stayed in one, but looking at the floor plans (at any resort), there's something I don't like about them. I don't like that the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms have two beds in them. The thing I love about a 1 or 2 BR is the ability to get away from the kids. In a GV, you just can't do that. I think if I ever take extended family, I'll book a 1 BR and a 2 BR, even if it's more points. The thing I don't like about that is I would love to share the living room and kitchen, like you can do in a GV. Does anyone else feel this way about the GVs?

Sorry, don't understand your comment about the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms with two beds comment. IMHO I like it that way so kids might not have to share the beds.

We have stayed in a BWV GV in the one story version and the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms were way on the other end, didn't bother us at all.

I'm looking at it from the standpoint of inviting extended family. If there are 3 families, 2 of the families will have to share with their kids. Only 1 family gets the luxury of having a private bedroom.

If you invite extended family, they get the luxury of spacious DVC accommodations at no charge. If providing the additional luxury of having private bedrooms for the adults in each family is necessary for you, then yeah, get 1 or 2 bedrooms for each family - you'll pay extra in points for that, but that's your call.

But to answer your question, no, the layout of the GVs doesn't bother me at all.

The only GV that we've ever booked was the Beach Cottage at VB. It was fabulous!!!! However, I would also suggest an "improvement." I would have a 1/2 bath, on the top/living floor. All three bedrooms are on the first floor and the second floor is the living/kitchen/dining area.

We had the BC for the same number of people (7, 4 adults and 3 children) that we usually fit in a two bedroom at WDW. We booked 3 Inn rooms for our other guests. The BC was our gathering place. It worked wonderfully for us. As spacious/wonderful as the GV's are, I can't imagine sleeping 12 people in one of them.

The reason I asked this question is because when my children are grown and have families, I would like to continue going to WDW together. Right now, we go every other year and I want to continue that.

We have also been looking at cabins in the Smoky Mountains for the off-years. They are amazing!!! Of course, right now we are looking at 1-2 bedroom cabins. But there are 4-5 bedroom cabins that can be rented for about what a GV on points would "cost." I realize it's not Disney, but I just love the floor plans. Every parent would get their own bedroom and the kids can share, and we have the huge living room and kitchen to gather in. As the years go by traveling to WDW, I would like to hang out at the resort more, so that type of floor plan would be nice!

It just got me thinking I wonder if DVC will ever build a resort with a 4-5 bedroom villa.

Yes they do bother me & for the same reason. I'd like to invite my brother & his family one of these days, but I was just looking at the floor plans & trying to figure out how it would work in a GV with 4 adults & 5 kids (2 girls & 3 boys)? Since we own at SSR, I think we might just book the THVs & give the girls the bunk room & the boys the living room. That seems to be a bit better of a floor plan with the pull-out chair in the living room & the other adults can have a queen bed & it's less points. Still a pain having the kids in the living room so adults can't sit there & chat late at night, but I guess that's when that big deck will come in handy.

We've gotten GV in OKW, SSR, AKV and VB. They are great because of the large dining area and kitchen. It is nice to all be able to sit together. I understand where you are coming from though. Because of that sleeping issue, the last time we went we got two 2bd. It was less points and one more bedroom. We opted for VWL instead of SSR I think.

But when we have family stay for only a couple of nights, we go for the GV since they are bigger and they can handle the kids in the room for a couple of nights.

I'd love to get the GV in Jambo again. Amazing!

Yikes! And 12 people (2 families) is what we will have in our VB Beach Cottage in May. Then moving to the AKV GV. We are waitlisted for Jambo House but have Kidani at the moment. First time in either GV for us and we are very excited!
