Lay-over between flights

Due to a schedule change by American Airlines, it looks like we will have a four hour lay-over at Raleigh-Durham Airport between our flight from Orlando to Boston. If you are between flights are you allowed to leave the airport?

You can leave the airport. Obviously, you'll have to go back through security... just don't miss your flight! You may want to call American and see there's a later flight out of Boston or earlier flight out of RDU since you now have such a long layover.

Sure you can leave the airport but be sure to allow time to clear security when you return.

Thanks so much for the advice to call AA. I did and got changed to a non-stop flight!!!!!!
