LAX Warning!!!

Hey everyone. I didn't see this mentioned anywhere (sorry if I missed it somewhere else), but I just wanted to pass along some LAX info to help you with your upcoming DLR/ So Cal trips.

LAX runway four is not going to be operational for the next six to nine months or so due to the fact that they are widening and lengthening it. This means that LAX is running on three runways instead of four. This has started to cause delays in and out of the airport.

It started this weekend (just when I was flying back to LA of course) and by evening flights were delayed an hour in or out of the airport. I suspect this will be the case for a few months as airlines and LAX reshuffle their schedules to compensate.

I suspect this won't have too much effect on connecting flights in and out of LAX as all flights across the board are being delayed, but it could effect connecting flights in other cities. It may also effect shuttle times to and from Disney. However I wouldn't panic, the airlines and shuttles all know about it by now and will be able to help you if changes need to be made to your itenerary.

Just wanted to keep you informed so your Disney trip doesn't start off with any surprises.

If you don't mind, we may want to keep this bumped up for a few weeks so everyone can see it. All the construction should be finished by spring when the big airbuses are due to start flying.

I saw this on Countdown with Keith Olbermann last night. One of the reasons they are doing it is safety issues. Apparently the way the runways are laid out is confusing to pilots and their have been a few near misses (why do they call it a "near miss" anyway? Shouldn't it be a "near hit"?? )because of it. Thanks for letting everyone know. We are flying into LAX for our trip and we know to expect some delays. I'd don't mind being delayed a bit if it keeps everyone safe, just hope we make our connecting out of DFW on the way home!!

Thanks for the information. We are flying international in November and it is nice to know ahead of time that delays are probable.

My mother was scheduled to fly out of LAX yesterday - her flight was cancelled and was rescheduled for tonight. She just called and arrived home more than 24 hours later than planned. She had no idea about the LAX construction. When she asked at the terminal what the problem was, they told her that they were having trouble locating a pilot to fly the plane!

Dis Ohana, that's unbelievable that they had to reschedule your mom's flight 24 hrs later. Yikes! I'm surprised they weren't more prepared with flight schedules, etc. ahead of time. I'm sure they've had this planned for many months now. I just hope that if we end up flying into LAX b/c of better flight prices that they will be better organized in October. Ughhhhh

We fly into LAX Oct. 31 and out from there November 4th. I hope things are running smoother by then!

Dis Ohana, that's unbelievable that they had to reschedule your mom's flight 24 hrs later.

After waiting around all day the airlines did finally move everyone to a nearby hotel to spend the night. They had to check out of the hotel at 11:00am though, and since their rescheduled flight wasn't leaving until 6pm she just sat around the terminal again. I thought it was odd that the airlines didn't tell them about the runway construction. My mother knew nothing about it until I told her what I read here. Apparently it was a huge mess, it wasn't only their flight that was affected. I really hope they get it together soon.

It's funny, after posting the initial warning, a few days after, there was a water line that burst at LAX that kept cars from being able to get anywhere near for several hours before it was fixed.

Then today, a instrument landing system went out, shutting down all but one runway. Flights out are grounded, flights around the country are grounded, and dozens of planes are circling waiting to land. LAX is not having a good month.
