Lawn Mower Question

Okay this is gonna be weird. However, I've googled it and haven't gotten an answer yet.

My dh would like to have our mower "mulch". It is currently a 3 yr old rider and it just cuts. Does anyone know if we can just exchange out the blades for mulching blades? Is it that easy? Or would we need a whole new deck, or worse a whole new mower?

I would think it depends on the mower. Your best bet is to check and see if you can find an online manual for his model and see what it says about mulching.

My DH has a "mulching kit" on his tractor (Craftsman GT3000 - no I don't know the model # by heart - I just peeked outside to look - lol)

Theoretically, replacing standard blades with mulching blades will accomplish what you seek. I did so several years ago and the clippings still look the same to me. I consider a mulching mower a "suburban myth".

My solution is to mow a little more frequently to keep the clippings smaller. I never rake clippings, but do bag them if conditions are optimum (dry, short).

We have a riding mower. I am not sure if the blades are different for mulching but there is a plug that goes in the discharge chute so the grass stays under the mower and gets recut. We never use it.

We have a mulching mower and have for years. The big difference beside the blade is that the clippings don't discharge from a shoot, that area of the deck is blocked. A mulcher won't work if the clippings are in the path of the blade over and over again. We have no clippings left as we mow unless we haven't mowed the lawn in a long time.
