Friday 26 February 2010 - Day Nine
Eric woke up at 4.30 am but soon settled down again with us until 7.30 am. Me and Eric got up and then we woke Andy shortly afterwards at 8.15 am. We had breakfast and then headed to Animal Kingdom, via the gas station, at 9.50 am. We had our photo with Pluto ("Plu") on our way into the park. Eric was excited whilst we waited in the line but was a little unsure when we met Pluto, still quite happy though.
We called at Guest Services first to see whether there was any availability for the Crystal Palace over the next few days. We managed to secure an ADR for us and Kari for 3.15 pm the next day.
We took the train over to Rafiki's Planet Watch for the first stop of the day. I was very excited to see Jiminy Cricket who we have never seen before, so got in line for our photo. Eric made us and Jiminy laugh by going up and turning round to pose for a picture before giving Jiminy a cuddle! Obviously, Eric was getting an old hand at this character photo lark.
We had a look round inside - Eric's favourite thing to do was walk up and down the few steps between the upstairs and downstairs! We had a look round the petting zoo too, and saw sheep, goats, pot bellied pigs and donkeys. Eric was very interested in the animals but didn't want to get too close! We headed back on the train then as we had arranged to meet Kari for lunch at Flame Tree Barbeque at 12.30 pm.
We ended up walking up to the restaurant at the same time, so Andy and Kari lined up to get some food and me and E went to choose a table out of the sun and to talk to some ducks who were waddling around. We had never been to Flame Tree before and Kari had picked it for the same reason. I had always been put off it because any time I've seen pictures of the food there are always beans - and I HATE beans! I was therefore pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed the food. Me and Andy shared a pulled pork sandwich, a turkey sandwich and a sprite. I had some yummy coleslaw and Andy had some evil beans. Eric ate a little bit of ours. Kari had the pulled pork sandwich also and a key lime pie which looked really nice.
After lunch we went to the Boneyard for a bit so that Eric could whizz up and down the slide a few times and then we went to wait for the 2 pm Nemo show, at Kari's request. She really likes the show, me and Andy really don't. But we did think E might like it, however, he was asleep within a few minutes. I found this a really hard show to get through, to be honest, with Nemo just wanting to be back with his dad, I cried most of the way through it. It is my intention never to watch this show again. Don't let that put you off though if you've never seen it, loads of people really enjoy it, we just think Disney have gone really overkill with Nemo.
I carried a very heavy Eric out of the show and he woke up when we got out into the sunshine. We sat down to let the crowds disperse and Eric ate some grapes. We split off from Kari at this point as she was heading over to Epcot to be there for Illuminations later. We thought Illuminations was a bit late for Eric this time so we opted to stay at AK and wait for the parade.
We had a walk along the discovery trails but were a bit disappointed that the tortoise was not there on that day. We also walked the Maharajah Jungle Trek and were again disappointed that the komodo dragon wasn't out but the cast member said it was too cold for him. Eric enjoyed looking at the "cats" - tigers!
Eric had fun playing on the drums again.
We watched the parade at 4.45 pm and Eric really enjoyed it, especially all the characters and some of the animals. We haven't been all that keen on this parade in the past, but it was really magical seeing it through Eric's eyes. I was really chuffed when Chip stopped by to say hi to Eric.
We exited the park along with the masses after the parade and drove to Raglan Road for tea. We didn't have an ADR, but were still seated almost immediately. Me and Andy both had the sangria to drink and Eric had apple juice. I had fish and chips and Andy had shepherd's pie - the same as we had last time we ate here, we were both so happy with our choices last time. And we ordered Eric chicken goujons and mash. He ate some mash and chips and a very little chicken (hmm, that sounds like he ate a small chicken which he definitely didn't). Eric was not a happy chappy during this meal either and just wanted to run around the restaurant and try to escape out of the front door so we took it in turns to run after him. We did manage to share the amazing bread and butter pudding for dessert though.
We had a quick look round the shop on the way out but didn't linger as E was pretty fed up by this point. He fell asleep in the car on the way back to the villa, so Andy stopped at Walgreens to get some milk. We put Eric almost straight into bed as he was so asleep by the time we got back. Had out cups of tea and baths after Eric went down and finished the evening with Bud Lite for Andy and a mojito for me and bed at midnight.
