Laurie's journal - Atkins plan (comments welcome)

Thursday through Monday - our Disneyland vacation:

Thursday - we barely make the flight...Up at 4am - on the road at 5am and traffic is already snarled. It is normally about 25 t0 35 minutes to the airport but it takes up over an hour. We get to the long-term parking at 6:10 - our flight is at 7:20! My parents are besides themselves wondering if we are going to make it. We get through security (about 20 minute line) and walk up to the plane just as they start boarding. No checked baggage - but my shoes aren't on comfortably after have to take them off to go through security.

We are on-time to SNA - Orange County, pick up the van at Avis (great deal through Hotwire - saved about $100 over the Avis web price) and drive down to see DH's brother's new orthodontic office in San Clemente. Lunch at Wahoos for fish tacos (yes-too many carbs but worth it) and back to check in to the hotel Desert Palm Inn & Suites before picking up the nieces at the airport. The hotel has just finished a major renovation - our two-bedroom suite has 4 queens, 2 bathrooms, in-room fridge and microwave and looks out over California Adventure. The pool is the only thing not finished in the renovation (the girls swim at the Jolly Roger across the street). We grab "breakfast for dinner" at I-Hop across from the airport. I had an omelette and gave up my pancakes to my mother - all 90 lbs of her. The girls flight is a little delayed but we finally head back to the hotel - Mickey D's in hand for them. I can't believe how much they've grown! Allysa is 6 and Charly is 12.

Friday - up bright and early (we had picked up cottage cheese for my breakfast along with diet coke & bottled water on Thursday). Breakfast (cereal, toast, fruit, OJ, milk & coffee are included with the rooms) at 7:30 am and off to the parks. We spend about 2 hours in DL - fantasyland, haunted mansion & slash mt before heading over the California Adventure for the day. Crowds are extremely low. Walk on everything - no real wait. Really enjoyed the Electric light parade. Lunch for me is chicken & apple salad in a bread bowl (skip the bread) and ice tea. Dinner is an open faced burger w/bleu cheese and onion rings...not exactly altogether low-carb but doing the best I can.

Saturday - we're back over a DL. It's a much more crowded day. We are not at the park for opening (8am) but get there about 8:45 - that 45 minutes makes all the difference I'm convinced. Line are long - have to pick and choose which we'll wait for and which we fast pass instead. (Still the longest line we wait in is about 35 minutes - I know we're spoiled.) Lunch is Bengal BBQ - the spicy beef kabob, grilled vegatable & bacon wrapped asparagus - YUM! Dinner is at the Plaza Inn - I have the potroast. I tell the CM I'm avoiding the high carb foods and she doubles the serving of meat and doubles the serving of veggies (green & wax beans), no biscuit, no mashed potatoes. DH went down to see his brother on Saturday night - the rest of us hung out and watched the late parade and booked over to see fantasmic! I hadn't seen the parade before and really enjoyed it. Fantasmic is better at DL (IMHO) - nothing like seeing it from down low and all the extras the river of the americas bring to the experience.

Sunday - at Knott's Berry Farm. Knott's has some great coasters - older niece is just now getting brave enough to try them. We had to beg, plead & drag her on Xcelerator. After the first time we couldn't get her off of it. Crowds were very low at Knott's. We had the chicken dinner for lunch over in the Mexico section (not the Mrs. Knott's restaurant because they were still serving brunch). I would have liked the restaurant better. Still I could order ala carte and get just salad and chicken breasts. Sunday night, DH and I took a break from family and headed to House of Blues for ribs (again very accomodating to low-carb eating). We shopped at DTD and headed back to the hotel.

Monday - last day. The girls wake up begging for Goofy's kitchen. I call exactly at 8am and can only get a 10:50 PS for the 6 of us. We head over to the park at 9:15 and do a little more shopping on main street. It is more crowded than on Friday. We ride the materhorn one more time and then get on the monorail for the ride over to the DLH for "brunch". Goofy's kitchen is really fun. The character interaction is great - it's uncrowded and we get lots of time with the characters; Goofy, Pluto, Aladin, Baloo, Mulan & Aurora. The food is wonderful - made to order omelettes and lots of low-carb choices. I break down and have a lemon bar for desert. We head back over to DL about 12:30pm. We ride Small World and get in line for the new Snow White show (very good). Afterwards we end up in the longest line we've waited in for Roger Rabbit and get on the train to New Oleans square for another ride on Splash (DH heads back to get the car and meet us at 4pm for the ride to the airport.)

The weather was beautiful, sunny, not too warm and only rain while on splash and our dash out of the park. I'm missing my nieces terribly already and I'm hoping their dad's will let us see them during spring break - otherwise it will be summer before we get any time with them.

Along with Space Mt being down (until 2005) - big thunder is down until March 11 and Indiana Jones until March 8th or 9th. Tower of Terror opens in May. There is still plenty to do but it's strange to have 3 E rides down at the same time.

I put on 1 lb (I'm sure it's water weight, given how tight my ring is right now - air travel always does this too me.) So I keep my 5 lb clippie but don't get my 10 lb clippie yet even though my jeans are so loose from all the walking.

Laurie, sounds like you had an AWESOME trip!! Sorry you had to come back to the real world so soon. :(

On the up side, I bet you'll have that coveted 10 lb clippie in no time after all that walking! :D

Wednesday & Thursday

My bruised and tired feet are starting to recover. DH said we'll get back to our neighborhood walk tomorrow rain or shine. It's also back to rain and grey skies. I'm missing my nieces a great deal. My father sent me some of the digital pics in an email yesterday and I nearly broke into tears at work.

Mister Negativity (aka the new FT employee) had himself a very rotten day yesterday and took it out on the rest of us. I'm hoping that Karma works a little faster with this one...in one of his phone monopolizing conversations with his wife, they cooed on about a military flight test she was out on. I had to get up and walk away. My DH worked military programs for his first 6 years at Boeing and I knew the half of the conversation I was hearing was not only classified, but illegal for anyone to overhear. My DH never would have discussed a flight test with me or anyone else let alone these specific details of the flight test. I asked DH if I should report the security breach to someone...but he said that it would be harder on us to be debriefed than if they are caught some other way. Maybe security clearances aren't as tight as they used to be...but I would think in this day and age things might be even tighter.

Foodwise - Wednesday: breakfast - low-carb roll & cottage cheese; snack - broccoli slaw; lunch - halibut & green beans; dinner - shrimp salad w/bleu cheese dressing, tomato, parmasan; snack - 1 oz almonds, 1 oz macadamia, 1 oz sugar free jelly bellies; lots of water & diet rite soda. (water weight is not disappearing...rings are still tight)

Thursday: same as above but instead of fish & green beans, I have pork tenderloin & asparagus.

Exercise - pilates after work.

Goals - more water, catch up on journals, count to 10 or 20 or 30 before exploding, stay positive.

Oh, I'm wearing a pair of twill "jeans" to work today that I haven't been able to wear comfortably for 2 years!

Welcome back Laurie! Feels kind of weird saying that since I'm in California. I'm glad you were out here when most of the rain had already let up. It sounds like you had a really good time. Just curious, how do like Disneyland in comparison to the MK at WDW? My cousin who lives out here keeps telling me I won't like the MK as much but I find that hard to believe.

Anyway, looks like you're back into the routine of things. Congratulations on the jeans!

Have a great weekend!:D

Laurie, those twill jeans sound wonderful!! Bet you were lookin' good in 'em too!!

I hope things with MN (Mister Negativity :p ) get better soon. It's gotta be a very frustrating situation for you! Wish I had some words of wisdom for you :( but know that I'm keeping you and DH in my prayers.

Hope you have a good day and an even better weekend! :sunny:

hey laurie, welcome back! sounds like you had a really nice trip, and you really stuck to your woe as much as possible. i'm very impressed ::yes:: . sorry about the new guy at work. hope he ends up getting what he deserves.

hope you're having a great weekend :)

Friday: Got to work with Katie (for probably the last time) - she's found a FT job so she will be taking herself off the PT/oncall list...funny I predicted that the PTers would start disapearing once they only got 1 or 2 days/week....hmmmm

Friday menu - same as Thursday - sub the nuts for havarti & salami. I seemed to be more hungry than usual...don't know what that is about. Had little or no appetite even while on vacation and right after getting back.

Saturday: Having to work - Tara had a wedding to go to. We are in for a late night...we're on after HS basketball and the girls game was over an hour late in starting.

Saturday menu - breakfast - scrambled eggs, real diet coke; lunch/dinner - pork tenderloin, romaine salad w/bleu cheese, tomato & almonds. Diet rite and lots of water.

Ladies, I sincerely appologize...I'm so behind on journals. Too busy at work.

Goals for the rest of the weekend: get out and walk, pilates & get 2 coats of finish on our new table and stools for the kitchen.

Laurie,

i'm sorry about work. I know it stresses you, do you think that is why you arwe hungrier? I eat when stressed. Just a thought.

Please don't worry about our journals. You have a lot on your plate right now. We know you are thinking about us. You are on the boards when you can. We understand.

Beth

Laurie, I second Beth's thoughts! Don't worry about getting here or catching up with journals. You work on taking good care of you!! That's what is important. We know you're thinking of us and wishing us the same success that we are wishing for you!

Hope this week goes well! :sunny:

Sunday: lazy day...really, really tired - slept in, stayed in bed with the kitties and finished the new John Grisham book "the last juror". I really enjoyed it. His writing is starting to remind me of Steinbeck & Faulkner (2 of my favorites from college lit classes.) Foodwise - lunch was ham & herb cheese in low-carb wraps, dinner we ordered out for Thai food. I microwaved a spaghetti squash while DH phoned it in and picked it up; yellow curry pork w/green beans & peppers, ginger chicken w/muchrooms, celery & pea pods & broccoli beef with lots of garlic. DH also picked up some white rice and he had a little but I had mine over the spaghetti squash - YUM! Had the rest of my carbs for the day by sharing some popcorn with DH during Alias.

Monday: We met with a siding contractor in morning. The siding on our home is 12 year old LP siding...the short of the long storie is that during the class action settlement for this product that we got very little for the bad siding and we've known that we need to replace it. Some of our neighbors put new siding over the old, but neither DH or I were comfortable with this. It's now time to get the old rotting stuff off and new on before we have any structural damage (already dealt with the water problem over Christmas). The bad news is that it will cost almost 20,000 to do over the 2,600 sq. feet needed! OUCH! I hope we qualify for financing with DH off work...so much for the dreams of remodeling the kitchen any time soon.

Food: no breakfast, late lunch was chicken taco salad at Taco Time (no chips), dinner at my parents was, guess what?, chicken taco salad. I also had about 2 oz of peanuts for a snack. Not enough water.

Monday weight in: I'm now at 169 lbs (11 down from joining WISH and 20 lbs down from my birthday, Nov. 16) I'm going to claim my new clippie. I need 7 more to reach my 10% goal.

No looking forward to Mr. Negativity coming in soon (had to work with him Saturday too.)

Congratulations Laurie! A new clippie. Woo Hoo!
:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

You are doing great. Sorry to hear about your house. Ugh, I hate home repair. It is always way more than expected. You should be able to get finaced. Good Luck ignoring Mr. Negativity.
Beth

Oh Ouch! way too busy the last two days...too much stress at home and at work.

DH has decided it would be best to re-fi the whole mortgage rather than just get a home-equity line of credit to pay for the siding project. That means digging up financial documents and trying to qualify on my income alone. STRESS!

Tuesday food: breakfast - low-carb roll & cottage cheese; lunch - leftover Thai food; snack - 1 oz macadamias; dinner - leftover Thai on spaghetti squash, romaine salad w/bleu cheese, tomatoes & almonds; snack - 1 oz sugar-free jelly bellies, diet rite, lots of water

Wednesday food: breakfast - low-carb roll & cottage cheese; lunch - grilled ahi tuna in citrus sauce; dinner - pork tenderloin & romaine salad w/caesar dressing, tomato, artichoke & black olives; diet rite soda, lots of water.

No real break - ate while I worked. Does that mean that everything is negative carbs/calories?

Laurie,

Sorry you're so stressed and busy at work. You have been doing a great job stayung on progam. That can be really hard when stresse. I'm proud of you. I hope the refinancing goes well.
Beth

hey laurie, first off, congrats on the 10 pound clippie, and 20 pound overall loss!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

second off, i'm so sorry about all the stress you're going through right now! with everything at work, then add on the home remodeling, yikes! that's enough to drive anyone crazy  . you're doing a really good job of keeping it together though, even though i know it's really hard. i'm going to send you some extra :wizard: to help you get through all of this, and a big  . i hope everything works out okay for you!

Laurie, with all the stress going on you're still staying on plan and celebrating a new clippie!!!

:jumping1: YAY FOR LAURIE'S NEW CLIPPIE!!! :jumping1:

You are doing so well in spite of the chaos around you! Best wishes for your re-fi - never fun, in my opinion! It may ease your finances and siding worries though. You've got to protect the investment in your home! ::yes::

Hang in there, Laurie!! :sunny:

Whoa, shiny new clippie, woohoo!!!:Pinkbounc All your hard work is paying off Laurie. It's not easy staying OP, especially with a schedule like yours.

I wanted to thank you for posting about DL and MK on my journal the other day. I'm sure we're going to love it.

As for the weather, yes, we had 85, actually 90 degree temps this past week. It's cooling off now and has been in the mid 70s. The rainy weather you endured while you were here should give you a good excuse to come back out to California one of these days.

Take care Laurie, hope the stress lets up soon.:D

Thursday:

Stress level is rising...and I'm hungry. Yes, I've eaten. low-carb roll, cottage cheese, brie & salmie and now on oz. macadamias. At this rate I'll be through the whole bag before a real break time.

I've only had 2 "hungry" days since starting Atkins - both of them this week! Usually I have to remind myself to eat something every few hours.

Oh well back to college tournaments, brackets and scores.

Laurie,

I'm sorry you are dealing with all this stress. I'm sure it's the stress causing the hunger. I wish I could make it better. Here's some:wizard: and a . I wish it was more.
Beth

(((HUGS)) to you. I hope you are having a better day today that has no stress!

Desireé

Thursday: Definitely over did it on the nuts yesterday - 4 oz instead of 2. Did my best to live on what was in the bag and not make a road trip for stuff I shouldn't have. I was over my carb count for the day, but at least it was all "low-carb" foods.

Friday: Things are shaping up to be not so hectic here at work...can only hope stress levels will go down at home too. DH mowed the lawn yesterday (usually my chore - I like to mow the lawn, good mindless fun) - I think it did him some good. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and well get some pruning and yard cleanup done this weekend too.

Foodwise, the bag is packed and DH added a couple of pria carb select bars for emergency use. I'm really hoping to keep on track and not overeat today.

Back to the grind...

Beth, thanks for the hugs and magic - I'm going to do better today.

Desiree - thanks for stopping by. I'll try to get through your journal on my break today.
