We will be on the 7 night western in July. I would never think about doing laundry on the cruise, but DH surprised us with a 4 night stay at WDW after the cruise. With 2 teenage boys, DH, and myself, I don't think we will make it without doing laundry at least once!!

Is there a laundry room on the ship? How crowded is it? Where is it located?

Thanks!
Karen

I would definantly suggest doing the laundry on the ship in the morning rather than at the resorts. For one thing, the resort machines were $2 per load and the ship is only $1. There is also alot more to deal with at the parks. We went to WDW for 3 days, then the 7 day cruise, then a week with family so I ended up doing 3 load of laundry one morning. If you are going on the Magic, on deck 7, the best dryers were on the left side of the row. ;)

Just a couple of laundry tips:

1. Go early in the morning. The laundry room can get crazy later in the day, particularly if it is a day at sea.

2. Bring your own laundry soap. There is some available for purchase, however, if they're are out, they're out. Also, if you like fabric softener, a convenient way to do this is bring a couple of sheets of bounce. Walmart has wisk laundry tablets available in the travle-sized toiletries aisle.

3. Bring a roll of quarters to handle this. I think there is a change machine close by, but if it is out of change, then you are sort of out of luck.

4. When you transfer your laundry to the dryer, you can put in enough money to have it dry for 2 cycles. This would give you enough time to go have breakfast or actually do something.

I forgot one thing...I was able to put two loads of wash into one dryer & it was fine after 2 cycles.

I would like to add to the advice of not only trying early in the morning but that you try earlier that the last day of the cruise. The later in the cruise you wait, the longer the lines get to use the laundry.

Perhaps even better would be to do a little laundry every day up until the last few days of the cruise. Laundry facilities seem easy to come by any time of day early in the cruise.

Had 2 weeks' on ship, so needed to do laundry: decided to go 2am....................... brilliant time to do washing! Met lovely lady from USA - while washing our "smalls", and passed the time nattering about the ship! No stress involved, but had large bags under my eyes at breakfast! :Pinkbounc UK Nat

Thanks for the replies. We will be on deck 7 forwrd. Even though the cruise is a ways away, I think it is time to get a box and start tossing in things to take-laundry tablets, that roll of quarters, dryer sheets, etc!!!!

Wow!! Thanks for the tip about putting enough money in the dryer for two cycles. Didn't know you can do that!

On our most recent cruise on the Magic last month, we've experienced the most horrendous behavior in the laundry room. After the first dry cycle, our clothes were still wet. When we went to retrieve more quarters from our room, a "LADY" took all our laundry out and threw it on the table.... our clothes was still wet!!!! It was not a pretty scene when we got back to the laundry room.

Our table mates also had a horrible experience. They go to the laundry room to retrieve their clothes from the dryer to find all their clean clothes on the floor. The "LADY" didn't even have the decency to put their dry clothes on the table!!!!

The word of warning here is to watch your clothes like a hawk. Since we never go to laundry mats at home, we didn't realize that we need to be there to babysit our clothes. Lesson learned :)

One thing that irked me in the laundry room was one "lady" was monopolizing the entire folding area with her laundry. She had a ton of little piles spread out. There were 2 of us in there who couldn't find a bit of space if we had tried. I would suggest getting a collaspable laundry basket. It worked great for keeping the dirty clothes together, fit under the desk & behind the seat, and was great to fold the clothes in & carry them back to the room. I found one at WM.

What about the laundry service on the ship? What's the time turn around and the cost? Anyone try this? Might be worth it - leave in the Am on an excursion and come back with your laundry clean and folded in the PM?

There is a laundry room, but don't use it..not because it is bad....lol, but, because, why should you do laundry on the ship.

Put the dirty stuff in the laundry bag and send it out for drycleaning before you head off the ship..or a couple of times, while you are on. It works out great, you can pack less, and everything comes back looking great and all pressed and folded nicely.

I did a couple of loads of laundry on Thursday (one of our sea days), but I did it at 5:30 a.m. No one there, no one in the halls, not a soul around.

My dryer only took 1 cycle for both of my loads... but just be careful and watch where you're putting your quarters.. Don't put them in the slots for the dryer when you're trying to use the washer... the slots are together and I wasn't watching what I was doing.

You can always go and buy a package of detergent when you FIRST get on the ship, that way you don't have to lug detergent with you and it won't be out when you finally get to do it.
