Laundry

Can we talk laundry for a sec. It's my pet hate of travelling as most hotels don't have any facilities. On our last trip it drove me mad, we were only in most cities for 3 days and it took that long for everything to dry. We would fly into an amazing new city and I'd have to spend the first hour handwashing and scrubbing and wringing and hanging, turning what was once a lovely room into a laundry

I was excited about this trip because I knew I only had to get through 6 days in NYC and I would then be at WDW with a proper laundry.

We brought more clothes with us this time, esp undies and socks in the hope I wouldn't need to handwash but it is amazing how quickly you go through clothes, esp when the weather is warm.

Actually, I begrudge having to do any kind of washing while we are away. It is too much like "reality" to me. That is why I would never want to stay in one of the DVC places with a kitchen, are you kidding me, I'm not cooking on holidays

The sad news is I will have to spend my first evening at WDW in the laundry at Wilderness Lodge.

The good news is, if you have to do laundry, I guess WDW is a pretty great place to be when you do it.

My aunt used to travel throughout Europe on Trafalgar tours. She had a great way of dealing with laundry.......she did NONE.

She bought disposable undies and used stockings - the cheaper the better because they were destined for the round filing cabinet.
So, she always started with a mountain of stockings at the start of each trip and had extra luggage space at the end.

I do NOT take after her. We also spend time doing laundry. I found it easy to do laundry at WDW. We were doing the laundry in the afternoon, whilst we were enjoying the pool. Conveniently, the laundry facilities are POR and BCV were very close to quiet pools.

And when the drying was done, DH, DS and I would ALL help with the folding and packing up of the laundry.....much quicker when there are many hands .

I too hate doing laundry when away, but being away for a month, just not possible to get away from it. In NY I did send laundry out in the hotel laundry. It was expensive but it was cold, except for one day and we only too two pairs of jeans each and it was too cold for shorts so we had to wash and they didn't have a laundry.

I have done laundry twice since being here and am looking at needing to do a third. I have taken it down then come back to the room, gone back to transfer to the dryer and gone out for dinner (or safari) and then picked it up on the way back to the room.

I would really rather not do any laundry, I hate doing it at home and it is an even bigger chore when away

I hate laundry too. But sometimes it can be good me time away from the kids, and sitting in meditative silence for a little

When we were in LV in April we stayed at Marriot Grand Chatteau Time Share and the apartment had a washer/dryer combo. So in that respect I could wash whilst in the room.

But in Anaheim I needed to use a laundry room :-(

If DN comes with us next year we're thinking of a one-bedroom at GCV so I'll have the washer in the room again.

That is why I would never want to stay in one of the DVC places with a kitchen, are you kidding me, I'm not cooking on holidays.

DVC places with a kitchen are with a washer dryer in the unit. You don't not have to leave your room to find a laundry. I LOVE having the laundry there rather than having to go back and forth waiting for the washing to finish.
You don't cook in a DVC place with a kitchen, 90% of the things you would want aren't there, no herbs and spices, and all the wrong equipment once you get much beyond cooking eggs. What the kitchen allows you is a nice big fridge, so you can put the drinks you want in the fridge, and some bits and pieces for breakfast and snacks. Breakfast shouldn't be too much cooking You can make a snack or two to take on any outing you go to. Sometimes having the 'home'made sandwich can make waiting in a queue a lot easier, and you know what's in the sandwich rather than suddenly finding some unexpected pickle or something. Pretty well every other meal you will be out and about and there is no point going back to cook a ridiculously basic meal because you haven't got your supplies and you're not going to buy them all for a few days

The BIG advantage with DVC place with a kitchen is it's BIG! There is space to spread out. This really applies to any timeshare, even the off property ones. If you stay at Disney's Old Key West, everything is HUGE. You will not have to find some laundry in the bowels of the hotel, you just throw the stuff in the machine in your room and close the door. The only drawback is you don't get daily maid service.


It is sooooooooo easy to avoid cooking in a timeshare kitchen, all the other advantages far outweigh the effort involved avoiding cooking

Ok I admit it I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to laundry on holidays. I don't mind doing it. I hate dirty laundry in my suitcase, I'm obsessive about it actually. Last trip to WDW did the laundry twice and we were only there for 6 nights. A good friend of mine can go on holidays for a whole month and not do laundry at all. It boggles my mind I don't even want to think about doing that

It is worth keeping in mind that DVC Deluxe Studios only have a kitchenette so you can easily avoid cooking, and you have laundry rooms specially provided, the one at BLT is great (even a TV) and the one at AKL Jambo House looked fine.
