This is an odd question but......we are curious about the laundry situation. We assume there are washers/dryers in the CP apartment complexes for personal laundry. How much do they cost?

And, what about costumes for jobs like Attractions, Custodial, etc? Does Disney wash and iron those or are the students responsible for that?

Thanks!

For the most part, Disney will take care of laundering Costume pieces - you just drop off your soiled costume pieces and exchange them for new ones.

If they would like (personal preferences in soap, etc.), though, CMs can take them home and wash them themselves, as well.

They cost $1 per wash and dry. The dryers are quite a bit larger than the washers so I typically did three loads of wash and had two loads to dry because I could easily split up the third load into the other dryers.

When I did my CP in 2007 at Chatham, you had to buy a laundry card in the laundry room. However, you had to put at least $5 on it and the machine only took $5 bills. We would always save our $5 bills when we went shopping, or specifically ask for them at Publix just so we could do our laundry. Also, make sure you stay with your laundry, or check on it frequently. Since in Chatham there are several laundry "buildings", a lot of people use them. If you put your clothes in a washer in the morning and forget about them until later that night, chances are someone took them out and put them on a table. There were never enough washers and if somebody needed one and your clothes were done and still in there, people would move them. Gross! Definitely set a clock and arrive a few minutes before your load is expected to be done. :thumbsup2

Haha - I was one of those people. After a washer/dryer went off I would give the person 5-10 minutes... if they didn't show up then I pulled their stuff out! It used to make me SOOO mad when everything was full, which is why I recommend laundry at 9 am!

are there certain specific hours you're allowed to do your laundry?

I was in Chatham last Spring. You had to use a $5 to get a card, but you didnt have to put $5 at a time on. You could put a dollar or two on.

TIP: ALWAYS have your card loaded BEFORE you cart all of your laundry to the laundry room, put it in the washer, pour detergent all over your clothes, because that day, someone WILL have jammed a dollar into the machine that loads the cards, and you will have to walk all over the complex trying to find another room as you will only know where "your" laundry room is, not any of the others, and then when you finally return to your clothes, someone will have removed your clothes and set them aside, and there won't be any washers, even though its 8AM. (I sound bitter still after all this time :lmao: )

A couple of tips:

Set the alarm on your cell phone for 5-10 minutes before your laundry is supposed to be done. Like mentioned, it is almost a guarantee that it will be sitting somewhere random when you finally get your butt over there.

Also the dryers are not the best quality and are prone to breaking down. To avoid finding your clothes sopping wet after "drying" for 45 minutes, use a dryer that was obviously used recently by feeling the door with your hand. If it's not hot after someone else's laundry was in there, don't use it.

And if you are not an average size in clothing, you might want to launder your own costume. I'm fairly tiny and XS shirts were hard to come by, especially when the Chinese ICPs were there. When I found an XS shirt, I kept it and refused to return it. Same with jackets, those are hard to come by so if you find it in your size, don't let it go.

Dumb question, but you bring your own detergent and dryer sheets, right?

If disney provides detergent in dispensers it's probably going to cost a bit.I'm bringing my own it cost me $5 and I'll have enough for the whole program.

Sounds good. Thanks!
