laundry room etiquette

Curious what you guys think is proper etiquette at resort laundry rooms... We need to do a load of laundry but both washers are full. We've been waiting for someone to come pick up their finished wash for about 30 minutes. How long do we wait before taking their clothes out and putting ours in?

BTW - there is an app you can use to notify you when your laundry is finished.

I would take out at 30 minutes for sure and not feel bad about it. Just place on clean counter.

People need to be mindful that they aren't in their own home.
Person may be upset, but just kindly explain you were waiting. And then ignore them if they keep complaining.

We lived in apartments for a long time with shared laundry. We became ruthless in that environment!

I completely agree. With the app that tells you it's done there is ZERO excuse for being any more than about 5 minutes past the finish time.

We took it out after about 40 mins.I set everything on top of a clean towel and placed a second clean towel on top. When we went back to move ours to the dryer, theirs was in the dryer and based on the time left, they were another 15 mins.

We didn't use the app but simply set a timer on our phone using the minutes showing on the machine when we started it. We arrived with less than one minute left in our cycle.

That's good. Maybe the people were aware that someone may take their laundry out when finished and were perfectly fine with that.

If no one is around. I take it out and put it in counter. Same after drying. I Make sure i am there when clothes are done.
There is nothing to feel guilty about. If someone isn’t there to get their clothes.... oh well.

When we wash and need to go elsewhere, other than the pools which are right there at POR, in the past we have left a note stating that someone may move our laundry to the basket if we are late. The app however makes this unnecessary now.

Having the laundry right there at a quiet pool makes laundry just part of a pool day.

As someone who lived in dorms, apartments with shared laundry rooms, along in places with no on-site laundry facilities. 10-15 minutes was my rule of thumb. I would simply place the wet laundry on a clean folding table.

If for some reason, I was late in returning to move my wet clothes to a dryer or removing my dry clothes from the dryer. I would not be upset if a person had moved them to a table. It was my bad.

I think the note is a good idea, along with a laundry basket to give people a place to put it. Gives you some wiggle room in case something delays your return, and respects the time of the people who are waiting.

While I wouldn't feel "bad" about moving someone's clothes, I might feel a little worried that they'd be nasty about it. Never can tell which strangers are going to be reasonable and which are going to be entitled loons. My biggest fear is someone getting mad and messing with my clothes when I'm not there.

i’ve found the app to be unreliable. It would show not running when it was.
