Laundry Basket/Hamper

I use different laundry baskets - I have 3 laundry baskets for clean clothes/towels/sheets only. I have 2 laundry baskets for dirty clothes only. The thought of my clean clothes (and other things) being in the same basket as dirty clothes, dirty underwear, socks and etc gross me out. I literally just can't do it - LOL!!!

We have sorter (light/dark) mesh bags in our bedroom. We use a laundry basket to bring the clothes to the basement to launder. Use the same basket to bring the clean clothes back upstairs. The basket is plastic and has holes throughout.

Frankly, I'm not going to get my panties in a wad (see what I did there?) about what few germs may come back with the clean laundry.

Well the soap counteracts the dirt mixing in, right? I just rinse a mop bucket after use. I don’t scrub it.

I do keep my laundry separate, though. 3 dirty hampers and 3 clean baskets. That does sound excessive but dirty is for each bathroom and one for towels. And I basically live out of 2 baskets since I gave my dresser to my son and never purchased a new one.

On the occasion my husband does his own laundry, he’ll just toss them back in the dirty hamper. I had the same thought as previously mentioned that clothes aren’t clean anymore as soon as you put them on anyway.

We have tall mesh hampers that stay upstairs, and nested plastic laundry baskets that we grab as needed, put the dirty clothes in, and carry them down to the basement laundry room. After washing, the clothes go back in the basket, usually get folded on the sofa on the main floor, put back in the basket again, then carried upstairs.

I do keep a tub of Lysol/Clorox wipes in the laundry room, though, so if I feel a particular basket is germy, I give it a wipe while the clothes are in the washer.

Now thinking about my process, it does seem rather weird.

I don't use the same baskets that the dirty laundry is sitting in all week, but I do use tall baskets to carry both dirty and clean up and down to the basement (where our laundry is).

Kids have a hamper upstairs and spouse and I have one in our closet. I take those two dirty clothes hampers, sort the clothes into three tall laundry baskets (each the size of one full load), wash/dry them, carry them back upstairs, and then fold into clean individual baskets for each person.

So, clean clothes never touch the "dirty" hampers but they do touch the same baskets that I used to sort the clothes into. (So, I suppose the baskets are technically dirty since I put the dirty clothes in them for a few minutes, but somehow it feels less dirty to me than the smelly hampers.) Our previous house had a separate laundry room on the first floor, so I just folded things into the clean individual baskets directly out of the dryer and never had to reuse the "sorting baskets" for carrying the clothes up and down the stairs.

Shoot, I drop clothes just getting them out of the dryer. DW will sometimes fold clothes right out of the dryer. I put them back in the bushel and take them to our bedroom to fold. Since it's just her and I, we do 2.5 loads a week. One lights, one darks, and every other week, towels and sheets. DD does her own.

Well, to be completely transparent, while I do put away clean laundry once in a while, my wife has banned me from touching the washer or dryer without written instructions.
I am allowed to run the dishwasher without supervision, usually. My wife doesn't like how I load the dishwasher even though I load it the way the MANUFACTURER says to do it, not her way.

I'm going to add to my original post....

My bathroom and DD20's bedroom both have a hamper.
The dirty clothes laundry baskets are brought up from the laundry room to put dirty clothes into themto carry down into the laundry room for cleaning.
The clean clothes laundry baskets are used to put clothes in after they are done in the dryer to be brought back upstairs.
The clean baskets are different from the other baskets, so I know which is which.
I'm the only one that does laundry in the house because I'm a self proclaimed control freak with the laundry - LOL!

One day when my DD was a senior in HS her softball coach over heard her say that I do her laundry. He immediately texted me asking me if this was a true and how she needs to do her own laundry to get ready for college (this was all done in good fun). I told him that if she's not smart enough to learn this simple task, then I've done something wrong as a parent - LOL!!! For the record, she did learn how to do laundry (it's not that hard) and she is not someday that OCDs about clean clothes being placed in a basket that held dirty clothes like me - LOL!!

Then you must be his twin and for the record - us wives know what we're talking about, especially about the dishwasher. Our way will always be the best way - we know even more than the manufacturer - LOL!

About 25 years ago, while sitting in a recliner in another room, my DH said”no, don’t put that bowl there, put it onthe bottom shelf”. I raised my hands and said you’re welcome to the job. And he still does the dishes, 90 % of the time. Of course 90%of the time I do the cooking, so it works out.

I don’t get it. How dirty are peoples clothes that they need separate baskets? I’ve never even thought about using different baskets. We have hampers in the bathrooms and bedrooms, they get emptied into baskets which get taken to the laundry room and when clothes are clean and dry they get put back into the baskets to be folded and put away. Thought this was normal?

Does it? I don't want to take a chance of the particulates not dissolving and making swirl marks on the paint using a sponge that has embedded dirt in it.

I did all the cooking for 17 years. I worked overnight shift and my wife had a "normal" 9 to 6 job so I had dinner ready at 630 pm when she got home. Made no sense for her to do the cooking then. But she actually likes cooking so when both our work shifts changed, mine 3 am to 11:30 am, her's to 4:30 am to 1 pm, she took over the cooking. Same since we retired, but she went back to work temporarily and is home by 2:30 pm.
Only time I cook is when she wants Macaroni and Cheese for dinner, since I make it from scratch. Not like that really is cooking. Boil macaroni. Make a Roux. Shred the cheese. Mix in the cheese, pour over the macaroni and bake. And our daughter insisted I make it from Christmas dinner.

I have never understood being upset someone completed a household task.

If someone wants to do the laundry, wash the dishes, clean the bathroom, etc, and do it differently than I would have done, I am MORE than happy to let them.

She is afraid I will damage the washer or dryer or the clothes. You know, put the detergent in the softer slot, or vis versa. Or use the wrong setting or temperature or water temperature. Of course, the fact we got a top of the line washer and dryer that cost darn near $1,000 instead of the $399 models may be a factor.

Where I fold the clean clothes is literally 10 steps away from the washer/dryer. I just carry them in my arms, put them down, and fold them. Then each individual is responsible to come get their items from where I fold them. Often it will take 2 trips to get them all from the dryer, but since it isn't far, that's not a big deal. I never even considered putting them back in a basket.
