Laughter, Tears & Screams- Two Aussies in WDW! New - 6/10 - The End!!

So the day had arrived. Our leaving day. Boooooooo!!!! :sad2:

But on the other hand, we were also a bit.... Yayyyyyyyyyy!!!! :yay:

Because I know it sounds crazy, but we were ready to leave. We'd been away for 3 and a half weeks, and we were exhausted! 12 nights at Disney World, with the crowds and the lines and the Brazilian tour groups and the Deluxe Dining can really take it out of you!!

But mostly of course, we were just happy to be flying home to Annie. Awwww.

I once read a trip report where the writer had said, "We're a bit Disney-ed out now, and ready to start exploring other places." I'd always hoped I would have that feeling at the end of this trip, but sincerely doubted it. And you know what?! I really did have that feeling!!

So we awoke that last morning to our final Stitch wake-up call and did some last minute packing and organising. Everything was pretty much done the night before - we just had to shower and pack last minute things. But before we hit the road and checked out, we had one more stop...

Breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe! Yayyyy! :woohoo:

We'd made a breakfast ADR for that morning, thinking we'd need to stock up our tummies for the massive flight ahead of us. And it was a nice breakfast! The food was quite delicious and our server was fun, and reminded me of Robert Downey Jnr. Hehee. I'd thought we might be really sad and miserable as we ate, realising it was our last day... but actually, it was a nice, relaxing way to say goodbye to Disney and all the food!!

Here's my breakfast skillet... Yep, all that food for just me!! :lmao:

Here's Conan's omelette, just because there's not many photos in this update!

IMG_9970.jpg

After filling up our bellies (again), we wandered back up to our room, chilled out on the balcony for a little while, and finally, said goodbye to our room. Bye room, thanks for having us!! We loved our room, it was sad to close the door for the last time!

So we headed downstairs and checked out for the last time. Awww, bye Wilderness Lodge! So pretty and cosy! We really did love the Wilderness Lodge. Would we stay there again next time? Probably not because there's so many other hotels we want to try as well, but we both fell in love with the Wilderness Lodge. :lovestruc

After checking out, we met our nice towncar driver, who was driving us to the airport. Why didn't we just go for Magical Express? Welllll... I'd heard too many horror stories about it being late, and I'm such a worrier when it comes to catching overseas flights, that I just couldn't risk it!! Our towncar was great. Very relaxing!

And so, after 12 night of crazy fun, we said our goodbyes to Disney World. Waaaaaah!! I'll admit, I felt really sad while exiting the Disney gates, and seeing the signs to the Magic Kingdom for the last time. Waaaaah!! :guilty:

As soon as we got to the airport though, I perked up again. Busy, busy, busy! Nothing too exciting happened (which is a good thing, I suppose!) - we checked in and waited, waited, waited for our flight. We had about 24 hours of flying ahead of us. Ugh!! Our first flight was from Orlando to Los Angeles. Then from Los Angeles to Melbourne, but with a stop-over in Auckland, New Zealand. Whew!!

We had something to distract us though... this was Obama's inauguration day!! We were fascinated by the whole event. Nothing like that happens in Australia!! We enjoyed kicking back and watching the tv's in the airports, and more than that, watching people's reactions around us. People literally cheered when he was eventually sworn in. We as Australians just giggled. Hehehee.

So anyhoo, our first flight to LA was the most exciting, because Jim Belushi was on our plane. Heh! Not the most exciting celebrity, but still a celebrity nonetheless. You know, this guy!!

0000036714_20070102183631.jpg

We arrived in LA safe and sound, and had about 5 hours to wait until our next flight to Melbourne. Zzzzzzzz! We really just pottered around and shopped and watched some more inauguration, and the time went surprisingly quickly. :thumbsup2

Then we were off again! A 12 hour flight this time, all the way to New Zealand. Aye, aye, aye!! I slept a lot, which was good. And watched some more movies, and eventually, we arrived in New Zealand. Yay! THEN, we got on our next flight, to Melbourne. Aughghghhhhh! THEN, three hours later, we were home! Yayyyyy!!!

Conan's Dad met us at the airport to drive us back to his house, where Annie was staying. Woohoooo!! Only 30 minutes away from seeing our cat-baby!! I was so excited by then, I could hardly sit still. I just wanted to blurt out to Conan's Dad, "How's Annie?!" But first of course, we had to ask about how he was. Hehehee.

Anyway, so he told us that the sore on Annie's eye had scabbed right up, but now the scab had fallen off so it was looking a bit icky again. Gross, sorry. But that she still seemed fine and wasn't bothered by it at all. I just couldn't wait to see her for myself, and give her a big cuddle!!

So we eventually made it to their house... and I ran straight in to where Annie was hiding (behind a cupboard) and said hello to her! Yayyyy! She looked up at me with her big brown eyes, and.... went straight back to sleep. Heheeee. Yep, that's my Annie!!!

It actually took a lot of coaxing to get her out from behind the cupboard, when we were ready to leave. I think a broomstick may have even been involved. :rolleyes1 Eventually we got her out, and I gave her a cuddle and checked out her sore... and it wasn't so bad, really. Probably not worth all those tears I'd cried at Disney World!! :confused3

And so, Conan, Annie and I said thank you very much to Conan's parents for having her, and we drove home. Yayyyy! And it was so, so nice to be home. We all settled back in quickly and had plenty of cuddles and sleeps on the couch!

IMG_3382.jpg

(These photos were actually taken a while after we arrived back, once her sore was better!)

Annie jumped straight back into our bed like she'd never been away...

IMG_3388.jpg

Curling up in our blankets...

IMG_0014.jpg

And went back to sleeping with her tongue hanging out just a little bit!! :lmao:

IMG_0046.jpg

Aww, it was so nice to be home!

Just to update you all on Annie, we took her to our vet the next day, who said the sore looked like something that older cats sometimes get when they're stressed or away from home. Oh dear!! We kept giving her the antibiotics and put cream on it each day, and eventually it was all cleared up, and now she's back to normal! Phew!!

(On another note, a few days after we arrived home, Annie fell off our couch and really hurt her back. I know, right?! Cats are meant to land on their feet... but not our Annie!! She was really, really sluggish for a long time, but she's better on that front now too! Phew! It was a rough few weeks for her, but she's a fighter!!)

And so, we were happy to be home, and our big Disney trip had come to an end! :sad1:... but also :woohoo:!

Next up... My final little review of our adventures!!

I definitely know that feeling where you are having tons of fun but... you are ready to go home. It is especially bad when you have pets at home that you are missing. When we were on our trip we had a picture of our cats on our camera that we looked at almost every day, I know we are saps!

oh no! Its over!! I bet you were ready to gethome though. Three and a half weeks is a long time to gone from home.

Annie's poor little back!! Hopefully she doesn't do that again!!

How funny that Jim Belushi was on your flight!!! I would be star struck no matter who it was!

i love the pics of contemplative conan at WL! i hope to get some like that of ray (and possibly a future child) there one day.

what a pain about mama melrose! i already commented about it (i think) on your dining report so i won't go there again.

Sounds crazy, I know, but the seats were three-quarters full already!!

that IS crazy! i guess cutting back on fantasmic showings makes every show more crowded.

We both love Fantasmic!

so do we! i just love that show and i'm pretty sure it's ray's favorite. he even knows mickey's moves at the beginning and end of the show! :rotfl:

Afterwards, we popped into the Villains in Vogue store (thanks Dawn!) to spend some of our leftover snack credits.

you're welcome! i love that store. so many cool things. and the snacks looked yummy!

And look what we got!! Some chocolate peanut butter puddles!! Yum!!! Trixie had told me about them before, and I like the sound of them. We don't have anything like it in Australia, so she sent us some!! Isn't she nice?!! It was such a lovely treat for our last night at Disney. We ate most of them that night, and the last couple in the morning, before our flight!! Thank you Trixie!!! :goodvibes

IMG_9968.jpg

very cool! how sweet!

At about 11pm, while enjoying some wholesome American tv, a newsflash came across the screen - there was a tornado warning for Florida, around the Orlando area! AUghghghghhhghhhgHH!GHHHH!!! :scared:

I was ready to run screaming downstairs and ask the front desk where we should hide. Aren't we meant to go in the bathtub or something!? Conan was a bit more calm, and said we should just watch the tv for updates and not panic. But whew! A bit of excitement for our night! Maybe it's a perfectly normal thing to pop up on the screen in Florida. But not for Australians!! We don't have hurricanes or tornadoes or earthquakes or anything, really!

lucky you! where i live in the spring we get tornado warnings all the time. we've had to put the dogs in the car and drive as fast as possible down the road 4 blocks to anna's house because she has a basement several times because of tornado warnings. thankfully nothing has ever came too close to us. but you never know when those things are gonna hit! luckily we're too far inland for hurricanes but we do get the leftovers of florida/gulf of mexico hurricanes in the form of SHEETS of rain for DAYS, mostly in september!

kinda cool that you guys got to see some of the inaugeration. i'm not big on politics but it was a really memorable day. i got choked up a few times watching it. ray is a huge obama supporter and i got him a shirt that says: obama raises hand, lifts a nation. i saw it on CNN.com, 12:11 p.m. 1.20.09 he loves that shirt!

jim belushi??? thats really neat!

sad your trip is over but i can totally relate to being happy to be home. i usually feel exactly the same way. and our furbabies are always missed so much while we're away! sorry to hear of annie's back troubles but glad to hear she's doing well!

You know, I can really relate to that! We felt a bit the same way when we had to leave WDW four weeks ago, after spending 14 happy and exhausting days there, we couldn't wait to get back home to our cats. :)

And I know I have said it before, but let me say it again: Your Annie is sooo cute, and I love how she sleeps with her tongue sticking out and looking a little silly! Aren't cats adorable? :lovestruc

I am glad you made it back safely and that Annie was better. I am glad that I can drive to WDW. It is a long drive but I am VERY scared of flying. I hate it. I don't know if I could do a 24 flight even to go to Disney World.

Aww, cute! We looked at photos of Annie when we were away too! I guess it's a good thing that you're ready to go home after a great vacation. There's no place like home!! ;)

glad alll your flights went smoothly and Annie looks all recovered!!

Thanks! She's definitely all recovered - she's lying on the couch next to me, snoring! :goodvibes

oh no! Its over!! I bet you were ready to gethome though. Three and a half weeks is a long time to gone from home.

How funny that Jim Belushi was on your flight!!! I would be star struck no matter who it was!

Hehee, I don't know if I was starstruck about Jim Belushi... he kinda looked like he needed a shower! A bit scruffy and gross! Heh!
I hope Annie doesn't fall off the couch again either! The poor thing! :confused3

i love the pics of contemplative conan at WL! i hope to get some like that of ray (and possibly a future child) there one day.

Aww, thanks! I like them too! Future child, yay!!! :yay:

that IS crazy! i guess cutting back on fantasmic showings makes every show more crowded.

Definitely! I never really worked out why they cut back to only 2 shows a week. I hope they've changed it back, it was nuts!!

so do we! i just love that show and i'm pretty sure it's ray's favorite. he even knows mickey's moves at the beginning and end of the show! :rotfl:

Funny!! You'll have to film him doing Mickey's moves on your next trip report! :thumbsup2

lucky you! where i live in the spring we get tornado warnings all the time. we've had to put the dogs in the car and drive as fast as possible down the road 4 blocks to anna's house because she has a basement several times because of tornado warnings. thankfully nothing has ever came too close to us. but you never know when those things are gonna hit! luckily we're too far inland for hurricanes but we do get the leftovers of florida/gulf of mexico hurricanes in the form of SHEETS of rain for DAYS, mostly in september!

Wow, scary! Lucky you've got somewhere to go though, just in case. Your dogs must get scared too!?

kinda cool that you guys got to see some of the inaugeration. i'm not big on politics but it was a really memorable day. i got choked up a few times watching it. ray is a huge obama supporter and i got him a shirt that says: obama raises hand, lifts a nation. i saw it on CNN.com, 12:11 p.m. 1.20.09 he loves that shirt!

Cool! I should buy that shirt too! I'd probably be the only person in Australia with it! Haaa! It was a pretty special day, and we were glad we were still in the USA to see it. :thumbsup2

jim belushi??? thats really neat!

Kinda, yeah!! He just seemed a bit scruffy, balding and in need of a shower really!! It would have been much more exciting had it been Brad Pitt on the plane instead... :lmao:

sad your trip is over but i can totally relate to being happy to be home. i usually feel exactly the same way. and our furbabies are always missed so much while we're away! sorry to hear of annie's back troubles but glad to hear she's doing well!

Thanks! Don't you wish our furbabies could come on vacation with us!? I do!! They deserve a vacation too!!

You know, I can really relate to that! We felt a bit the same way when we had to leave WDW four weeks ago, after spending 14 happy and exhausting days there, we couldn't wait to get back home to our cats. :)

I'm glad you (and other people too!) can relate to what I was saying about ready to go home. Disney World is fabulous, of course, but it's exhausting!! Thanks for your Annie compliments... I passed them on to her! :thumbsup2

Sad your adventure is over! Thanks for sharing!

No worries! Thanks for reading!! :cool1:

I am glad you made it back safely and that Annie was better. I am glad that I can drive to WDW. It is a long drive but I am VERY scared of flying. I hate it. I don't know if I could do a 24 flight even to go to Disney World.

I wish I could drive to Disney World! I'd be there every chance I got!! 24 hour flights are pretty awful... but we have no other choice!! Bummer!! Thanks for reading!! :)

And so that was our big trip! Our “last big adventure” before we settle down and do all that grown up stuff, like buying a house and having a baby. The trip that took a year to plan, and the trip that really did deliver a lot of laughter, tears and screams! :)

* Laughter... because we had lots and lots of laughs and silliness!
* Tears... because of Annie!
* And screams... because of all the crazy rides we went on!

Sure, there were ups and downs, but life doesn’t stop just because we’re on vacation, right?! Cats still get sores on their heads and tummy bugs are still caught. But mostly, we had lots and lots of fun and created some fabulous memories that will last forever. :thumbsup2

And so I'll divide this last post up into the highs and lows of our adventures. Not just Disney, but our whole trip away, if that’s okay! I’m a big believer that you need some time to contemplate things, especially after a big vacation like this. Now that I’ve had lots of time to think about it, these are the highs and lows that spring to mind…

Highs…

* New York on New Years Eve!

IMG_8630.jpg

This was the highlight of our entire trip, for sure. Maybe even the highlight of the decade, for me! (Apart from getting married of course… ahem!) It was something I’d wanted to do since I was little, and it was truly the most magical night ever. Conan and I often talk about it and still can’t believe we were really there. It was just SO. MUCH. FUN!!! No other New Years Eve will really ever live up to it now, that’s the only downside! Ha!

Random little moments still pop into my head now and then… like dancing to “New York, New York” in the middle of Times Square at midnight with millions of confetti pieces flying in the sky above us. Or walking back to our hotel in the freezing cold (after drinking copious cocktails), and yelling out to total strangers on the streets of Manhattan, “Happy neeeew year!!!” I look back now and chuckle and think to myself, “Did I really do that?!” and yes, yes I did!! I love it!!

* Watching Wishes with Cinderella!

IMG_9633.jpg

That was a truly magical experience that was just perfectly Disney. The price of our meal at CRT was worth it just for that! :wizard:

* Laughing and screaming our socks off on awesome rides like Rock’n’Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest. (And making weird hand gestures!)

image011.jpg

* Random little moments of unexpected fun like hiring the Sea Raycer boats, or giggling on Tomorrowland Transit Authority, or getting our competitive streak on in Mini-Golf, or dancing to the YMCA in the Wilderness Lodge pool, or tackling each other for the last bit of Dole Whip. Fun little moments that aren’t planned for, but can sometimes prove to be the best!

Here's the infamous YMCA dance moves, one last time! :lmao:

IMG_0289.jpg

Lows…

* Missing Annie and stressing about her sore head. Looking back, half my heart just wasn’t at Disney World for the end of our trip. That might sound silly, but I was just so worried about her, that I know I didn’t enjoy the last part of our trip like I should have.

* Too much food! We’ll never do the Deluxe Dining Plan again. I never thought I would say that, but I really had a lot more fun planning our restaurants than when we were actually eating in them! It’s just not for us. Three courses, three times a day = full, squirmy tummies!! Next time, we’ll stick with the Regular Dining Plan and save room for yummy snacks and drinks, like the Grey Goose Slushie!!

* Stomach bugs. Boooo. I really think my sore stomach was a combination of things. Stressing out about Annie, too much food, icky water at Wilderness Lodge, and probably also catching a small tummy bug. I felt very icky a lot of our time in Disney, and that's sad! We still did everything we wanted to do though, so I'm glad I didn't let it defeat me! Ha!

So where to from here!? We're not planning out next trip back to Disney just yet… In fact, I think it'll be a while away, sadly! Maybe even in a few years’ time when we have kids! But we are planning a few fun little trips this year, to explore Australia a bit more. In September, we’re off to tropical Queensland, way up north, to have a relaxing beach holiday. Yay! We’re planning on sleeping in, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, and swimming in our beautiful resort pool a lot! We’re only going for 8 nights, so hopefully Annie will be okay! She might stay with my Dad this time, who she’s a bit more comfortable with. Here’s hoping!!

This is the beach at Palm Cove, where we're heading in September! Pretty!!

palm-cove-australia.jpg
