Latest PotC RIDE Changes?!?

So, are the Keira and Orlando AA's being installed or what? I haven't heard anything about them in ages!! And if they were going to, surely they would have done it in time for the premiere so the stars themselves (well, Orlando at least...) could unveil them.

I was REALLY looking forward to seeing them next year!! The Johnny additions were GREAT IMO and I think Keira and Orlando could be just as good.

What's the latest on them?

I really hope you're joking. The additions (more like replacements) of Johnny Depp are a rape and exploitation of a great piece of history and a theme park attraction that needed no alteration. It shouldn't even be called 'Pirates' any more; it should just be called The Captain Jack Sparrow Experience. Its just disgusting.

Well, that's your opinion. I loved the original ride too and for a VERY long time was beyond against anything from the movies being added to the ride, BUT, things do change and Pirates is now known more as a movie franchise than a ride (which I think is a shame but the movies have brought a new lease of life to an otherwise BECOMING bland ride) so why shouldn't the movies main characters be added?

Walt himself said that Disneyland would never be finished and things would forever be changing. Rides can't stay the same forever.

They didn't slightly alter it, they didn't just add Depp in a few places. It really is The Captain Jack Sparrow Experience! I'm telling you super overdone and exploited. They didn't need to take out 1 character from that ride to make it jive better with the movie. The ad-ins should not have been replacements. And we don;t need to hear the words "Captain Jack Sparrow!" 17 (or whatever the excessive number is) times through the ride.

I would haven't had more than a grumble about it if it was done less excessively and nothing was removed. There was enough wallspace to paint in the movie characters without removing the portraits of the existing characters, and same for the animatronics. Nothing should have been removed.

OP, I really enjoyed seeing Depp in the ride, and have also been waiting for news on Bloom and Knightley. We won't be going to DL until next year, so I will have to wait until then to see the additions for myself.

I believe they scrapped the idea of adding the 2 new AA of Swann and Will Turner because of Tom Sawyer Island turning into Pirate's Lair.

Thought so. Everyone here is normally open to everyone's thoughts. Fair enough if you don't agree but that was a bit excessive.

Glad to see a couple of others were excited to see or even hear about the new AA's. It's a shame that they've been scrapped (?) for Pirates Lair but I am excited to see that too so either way I'm happy.

I do think that more AA's of characters from the movies may have been a little OTT but I was just excited to see Ms. Knightley a part of the ride!! The waxwork here in London quite simply isn't enough!!!

However, as much as I was looking forward to seeing them, I have to agree with Albort... where would they go?

I like Johnny Depp in the ride..but..I do wish they had only put one of him in..Going through it the first time after the remodel..I almost felt like I was in a Where's Waldo? (Jack) book ....

The additions didn't make it better or worse for me.
I love it either way

Though at the end when Cap JS is speaking to you on your way out, that I did think was a good addition, because if I remember right it was only a stash of gold before. (But I could be wrong)

Maybe in the jail scene...in the cell without the guys calling the dog...put in thier parting when Will goes off in search of Jack to free his girl...thats one of the best parts of the movie- def the best line!
But somehow I don't think "If it weren't for these bars, I'd have you already!" would work too good inside the park!

The ending is wayyyyy better, though I would prefer an empty room to the pirate's booty that was there before (while waiting for your boat to go uphill, you were staring at a pirate's rear, literally while he was trying to get the treasure up the hill. And some strange grunting noises, which might have been recorded in a stall somewhere! I HATED that part of the ride, and am SOOOOO glad it is gone!)

I whole heartedly support the new additions. If no additions were ever added the same old things would still be there and there would be nothing to look forward to. I mean they still kept so many of the same elements from the original ride, but updated it to give it a bit of a needed lift. I believe this is what Walt would have wanted. He would have wanted changes to be done eventually. I wonder what his brother Roy thinks of it. If Kiera and Orlando's animatronics got added eventually I would love to see the new additions.

In my opinion I think its great what they are doing with the additions simply because look at Tom Saywers Island... it was classic and they just give it a face lift but kept it Toms version of Pirates. I think give the pirates movies and stories 50 years and they will just be as classic. Our kids are going to go on our new additions of pirates and in 30 years from now when things to them are added they will think back and go "WOAH remember the classic ride of Pirates when we were kids"

Same thing as Indiana Jones.... they are remaking this movie and new elements will be added to the story, which will probably add new additions to the ride. I mean its entirely possible.

Not sure if you would call him/her a troll, but i kind of agree with the OP's point, the davey jones mist special effect, and johnny depp at the end of the ride would have been enough, but hearing Barbosa, the pirates at the dunking gallery and the drunken fat pirate, constantly asking hey, have you seen jack sparrow anywhere? of course we did, you keep asking about him and not worrying about anything else thats going on! its seriously, overkill.

I love the fact they updated the ride, added some new effects and added a improved audio sountrack and put barbosa and jack, but instead of interacting with the other pirates, its rather, look at me steal all the attention over everything else, this is my show now ! even though all 3 times i appear, its totally irrevalent to whats going on in the ride.

theres a difference between showing love for the ride that made the franchise so big, and selling out big time, imo, disney chose the latter.

I agree. I LOVE that they added Jack, but no other characters repeat, so having so many of him feels weird to me.

I would love to see an Elizabeth AA based on her in the third movie, which I will not say more about so as not to spoil it.

well honestly i don't see how the two would fit, it was my understanding that these were events that took place before the movie.
